New Guy with a 2012 GT500

Picked up a new 2012 GT500 black with race red/ingot stripes, rapid spec 820A package, electronics package w/navigation, SVT performance package and leather Recaro seats. I love car but hate the transmission. It was buttery smooth until the 475 mile mark. Then it started grinding on the 1-2 shift under hard acceleration. Have about 800 miles on it now and it almost always grinds the 1-2 under hard acceleration. I read the posts about the on-going problem but seems a definite fix is yet to be found. Really want to start modding it but I'm afraid to with the trans grinding.

Few question I need help with?

  • Should I hold off modding it until I bring it pack to the dealer? Have a Ford Racing Resonator Elimination kit on the way. Want to order a pulley upgrade/tune but I'm sure they will say that caused the problem some how.
  • When people post about opening a case with the dealer what does that mean?
  • What should I expect from the dealer and what should I ask for? (I haven't had a car with a warranty in place with a problem before modding so I have never asked for warranty service.)
  • Should I just get the trans fluid changed to Amsoil and install a MGW shifter?
  • If the transmissions are having trouble with stock GT500s how do they last on a supersnake?

Sorry for all the questions on my first post. Like I said, love the car but hate the trans. What's the point of having a fast car if you can't drive it like it was meant to be driven.

If you mod it out before you take it to the dealership, they'll have all kind of excuses on not to grant your warrenty, example the 3.73 rear end makes a moan /groan noise in turns. there was a TSB for the problem for the 5.0 L, so I went to the dealer and asked about the noise , had them drive it,they heard the noise and said it was the blower by pass, went back again ,same problem, and asked about adding the friction modifier to the rear end under warrenty , they said they didn't know if it was covered and had to check it out. I went to the parts dept, picked up a bottle($6.50) and did the job my self. the dealerships SUCK, unless it an all out bad part and they can't prove it was due to miss use, they really don't want to warrenty the problem. They'll make all kind of excuses. My suggestion is to have them fix the tranny ploblem and then knowing tht Ford has a TSB that they just came out with on modding the car will void the warrenty,I'd make a decesion on weather you want to modd or not, untill the warrenty runs out. I would love to have VMP install a pully upgrade and tune on my car,or even the TVS blower, but am fearfull it'll kill the warrenty. I personnally don't want to gamble with that right now.-Tony

Thanks Tonyd1!! I'm not modding it until the transmission is fixed. I have a ride along scheduled with the dealer next Monday. Once the problem is fixed, I'm adding a pulley, idler, tune, MGW shifter and off-road pipe. Was going to pull the trigger on the parts until the grinding started. The money is set aside to place an order once the transmission is figured out. Had the windows tinted at 35% today.

I just relocated from Chicago to Charlotte for warmer weather and the ability to drive a hot rod almost year round. There's no way I'm babying a car for 5 years. If it turns out to be that fragile it's gone. I really like the car so I hope it's not the way things go.
