Has anyone figuerd out FOR SURE, or do you feel relatively sure that replacing the stock shift lever in the '10 to current GT500's with a performance short shifter, is either a very good fix, or lends itself to the possibility of eliminating the 1-2 grind and subsequent damaged synchro issue on these cars? Has anyone started out right from new with a replacement and NOT had any of these problems?

Well, I replaced mine early in year (was doing other work) and I like the "feel" of the MGW better than stock but I cant say it eliminated the minor grind I have going to second.. I have just learned to let off RPMS a little and that seems to work for me.
