New Pony In The Stable Part 2

I know this forum is for Shelbys, but everyone on this forum is my extended family, so I'm sharing this buying experience with you. In an earlier topic post I mentioned I was buying a 2006 Legend Lime GT Coupe for my wife. Well I flew to West Virgina last week and brought our new limer home. The owner of the small dealership picked me up at the airport in Hunnington, WV and we drove to the booming town of Ceredo. The name of the dealership is Larry McCoy Auto Sales (yes, related to the Hattfields and McCoys). The owner Scott and his neice Lisa completed all the paperwork and I had them change the oil since they had no record of it being changed since they bought the car and even though low miles I didn't want 5 year old oil in the car on the long drive home. Now I'm a tire kicker, so for me to buy something over the internet without seeing it first was a huge leap of faith for me. The car was perfect, basically a 5 year old new car. Window sticker was still on the car and the odometer reading had 162 miles on it at purchase. After the transaction was complete Scott asked me if I liked Itallion food and took me to a great little Itallion place in town and paid for the entire meal. They were super nice people with great customer service. Scott called his little town Mayberry. He said if you want repeat business in a town this small you have to treat people right. I agree and he did. After that I was on the road down I-64 headed for home. It was about 7:30pm and I had a 5+ hour drive to my hotel in Princeton, IN. I arrived in Princeton about 1:00am and the next morning headed for St. Louis where I had Mark P. from Clear Auto Bra, LLC http://www.ultrashieldofstl.com/ apply clear bra to the front bumper, leading edge of the hood, lights, door edges and sills. Mark does great work and I figured now was the time to protect the practically new paint. After about a 3 hour wait I was off up Hwy 61/218 back to Iowa City. Total mileage for the trip home was about 750. I arrived and stopped at a local car wash to wash off the bugs and take her home to the Mrs. When she saw the car she was floored at how nice it was and had to drive it right away. She showed her friends, my parents and our son. Her co-workers are very jealous. This weekend I clay barred and waxed her up. Yesterday, I got the titled transferred and ordered a new personalized plate that will say JADED GT. I also registered the car on the Legend Lime Registry site. Anyway, here are a few pictures of our new ride. Dave

Nice story Dave, and nice ride for your wife.

Very unusual to find a 5 year old car with so low mileage still sitting around.

Since your wife now has her own car she will no longer be asking for the keys

to the SGT.

NO ulterior motive here at all was there?

Congrats, best of luck with it! I liked the story, too.

That is exactly what my Limer looked like the day I got it. Check my gallery to see what happens when you get the mod addiction.

Enjoy, it is one of the best colors for an S197. In fact, when Amy was selling me the 350, I told her I would buy it if she painted it Legend Lime with Wimbelton White stripes. That didn't work, but i am not complaining.

Great story, I love it when long distance buys go this smooth! I bought my Shelby sight unseen from a member (SGT2809) in Ohio without ever seeing the car, people thought I was crazy. But the car was as promised and I am glad I made the transaction!

Michael,

Going to keep her stock for now, at least performance wise anyway. I kind of like the way it looks the way it is. I did however buy a few mods for it already. I picked up a Ford Racing strut tower brace (Thanks Jer), the painted half side mirror covers and from the LL Registry a dash and engine plaque with my build date and LLR Number. Damn these mustangs have way too many cool things you can add to them.

What was the story of why someone bought this car and never drove it ?

The dealer told me that a man and his wife from the Hunnington area bought several cars over a 5 year period. They stored them and drove them occasionally around their neighborhood. Rotating cars every few weeks. The dealer said he doesn't know if they bought them as an investment or what. As he put it the couple tried to buy the "right" cars", something different or unique. The dealership heard about them from a friend of his and bought 2 of the cars, our 2006 LL Mustang and a 2008 Chevy HHR SS that had 121 miles on it. I saw that vehicle on their lot when I picked up my car and it was also perfect. I don't know if that's the right or whole story, but I really don't care since we're the beneficiary of an outstanding new LL Mustang. We plan to drive it and enjoy it. It will not be a garage queen!
