twobjshelbys
I'm looking for a second camera to bring on the Grand Canyon adventure. I used to take an old Nikkormat film camera but it got dunked at Havasu and died. Now digital reigns so I'm looking for a light weight water resistant camera. I'm not looking for water proof like diving to 100', just something that can take a little dousing from wave action and not die. My primary camera is a Nikon D700. I want it to also use just regular AA or AAA batteries as there are no chargers available.
SGT/SC#0471
Most will use rechargables but they last well an you can get extras....-also saw a waterpriof case in Fred Meyer for 20 bucks... I use an Pentax Optio W-60 its waterproof and does video and interval shoot mode (time lapse). It's about the size of a pack of smokes and pretty reasonably priced... There are so many the decision is hard. I like the Pentax though for it works and is a good value. Cheers!
SGT/SC#0471
I forgot you may check out older optio's used for the battery requirements.
HIGHFLIGHT
I used a simple Panasonic with a Leica tele lense and kept it a zip-loc bag without incident. Stay away from the waterproof (drugstore) film cameras. Nikon has several SLRD cameras that will do a great job. The D3100 or D5100, all sold at Wall-mart or Best buy. Great in the AF mode and also shoot 1080 HD video. I just got a D7000s with most of the bells. It currently has 2 32GB chips (6500 or so shots) The battery will take 1,000 + shots before it needs to be recharged. Extra batteries are $49. Canon also has similar packages. This time of year the Colorado River is usually dirty from the rains that fell 1,000 miles away. Just remember to shoot and shoot some more as you can sort them out later, I was in Montreal for the F1 Grand Prix a few weeks ago, and shot 700+ pictures at the race, If you can hold on try taking video at Lava Falls....I got some shots of group who decided to do the rapid all nude. Have fun
TheKurgan
My buddy has one of these he bought a few weeks ago to take on our fishing trips. Works great and Olympus is my brand of choice for cameras... http://www.walmart.com/ip/Olympus-10-MP-227075/12024518
