SC5.4
Recently I took my wife and kids up to SF. My wife booked a package deal for flight, hotel, and car with a online company. The flight part of the reservation got cancelled somehow, even after we paid a month early. My wife was checking the reservation numbers two days before, and found out the company did something wrong. We ended up getting a refund on the morning of the flight because there were no seats available. I had to book another flight, for more money! It was such a hassle dealing with the problem and the company. Is it just easier to skip the middle man, and do the booking through the airline or hotel itself? Cali_KR
As a frequent traveller, (I've flown the equivalent of 44 times around the earth, commerically, on biz) so here is what i do.. 90% of my flights are with United, so I book directly on their website. Then for the hotel and car portion, I use expedia and have never had an issue (and i've probably booked over 100x on their site). But just prior to booking the hotel, I'll often check the hotels own website to compare (99.9% it is the same), but if i'm going on pleasure, and am staying at property for extended period, I call the property directly, and ask them about any "specials" that are not advertised. The airline wouldn't help at all beause the agency booked it. Your are right, the price is about the same booking directly with the airline or hotel. There are always deals and promos. mywickedshelby
I use a travel site like Expedia as a search engine to find the deals and then book directly with the carrier.......19 out of 20 times the price is the same..... watch out for cancellation fees, the travel sites usually have their own ON TOP of the ones from the airline or hotel.... on car rentals...the airports usually have a large premium......a simple cab ride into town will usually fetch you a much better rate... I do the same thing and going with the carrier/hotel direct is always easier along with giving you flexibility if your plans change. We ate a hotel night last winter while touring college campuses in MN due to a huge snow storm since it was prepaid via Expedia. Never again...
