IMPORTANT POLE !

I think this would serve the fellow brothers and sisters who drive these "pigs" ( sorry couldnt resist ! ) umm Shelby's ... if we took a poll on tranny and clutch problems and more important when they reared there ugly head.

What I am hoping to prove is that the cars with no issues .. say .. after 3500 miles ... shouldnt have any.

In other words I truly think the tranny is a stout unit when properly put together as well as the clutch.

I like to find out from EVERYONE ... how many miles are presently on their Shelby GT500s and if they had tranny or clutch issues .. at what mileage did it show up.

Doesnt have to be long .. but I think this will help the forum decide if one goes ahead with mods and if so at what mileage.

My car is a mid Nov production date Shelby. Shifts fine .. clutch works great and so far no isssues.

I dont beat on it but I do jump on it a fair amount of time.

My mods are below and current mileage is 3700

May 06 Build date, Vin ending in 195888, drove it home first week of Aug. 2006. Just hit 5000 miles. No troubles cept for keeping the trolls out of it.

How did you get a May 06 build date when production didn't start until June 5th?

Did you mean order date? Or are you suppose to have a preproduction unit?

Preproduction, I assume. I've attached a small pic from inside the driver door that says 05/06. That's where I'm getting May 06 from. Never ordered one. Just got on a list in a dealership in Dallas; I was like 8th when I put down a deposit in May. Got the call at the end of July, negotiated for a couple of days, had the car the next week. Perfect timing as I had just finished taking the BAR exam and needed to "unwind".

As to preproduction, I'm totally lost and could use some clarification.

1) what does it mean?

2) does it make mine more highly sought after?

3) I've heard rumors that these were built with more care and attention

4) what was the purpose of the preproduction.

To be perfectly honest, I was just a lucky SOB, at the right place and time. I had been drooling over the car since they were first announced. Was told by the dealer that the other 7 in front of me either didn't want a vert, or didn't like the color. Color didn't matter to me, only that it was a vert.

Tungsten car - brought it home with 9.6 miles, has 9.8 miles - no problems.

You must have some MAJOR self control to have the car in a warm weather state and only put 0.2 miles on it in 3.5 months!! Are you putting it away as a collector's item? That car NEEDS TO RUN!!

The car's May 06 build date could mean allot of different things, but nothing worth worrying about for another 25 years. How many miles did she have when you took delivery? Thanks for the info and Congratulations! Assuming you passed.

I've got major problems with my Tremec and clutch...it shifts and goes like a bat out of hell...and that means tickets...I love this car and I've owned many a muscle car...it doesn't get any better. If I had a faster shifting tranny and smoother hydraulic clutch I'd really have probems...or maybe they wouldn't catch me.

built 11/30; 1300 miles, no clutch problems yet???? :banghead::banghead::banghead:

wish we could at least get some info from ford on what the problem is

don, sounds like you are in my dilema, put on the pulley or not, and whether to risk losing the warranty. I just ordered the 3.0 pulley from fred yesterday.

Exactly .... BUt i too will get it the stage II .. but will get the 3.0 pulley as well.

Talked to Jay Tucker too .. unless your going to drag race the car and beat the hell out of it .. the drive shaft isnt criitical.

So the mods I will have i can change over ...

don, expect pm in a few minutes, just spoke to a friend who is deep into performance cars, gave me a lot of insight into clutches.

for general consumption: with this kind of hp, just go ahead and start budgeting for a better clutch, maybe as soon as 25K, probably no later than 50K. No tolerance for slippage with this much power, so watch the takeoffs and power shifts, and any small factory mis adjustment of clutch (interface between the clutch and hydraulics) is a very bad thing (probably what happened to our friend in the netherlands). If you have any slippage or difficulty with getting into a gear, don't do shifting at much power, baby the thing home.

KCMO ... Thanks .. I know enough about clutches ... so fully understand. Had a clutch built for my Super Charged SHO .. putting out 310 crank hp .... and no real room to get a larger disc or pressure plate in.

Had rochester Clutch build me a clutch that his cost was $1500 to build. Remember .. this is going back about 10 years or so.

So I totally agree and I dont pwr shift ... the car doesnt see drag strips ...... i usually jump on it from a rolling start .... things that help preserve the clutch .. pressure plate ... drive train ..etc

sorry for the length of the pm then, more or less the same. The long and short of it, is that I am just planning and budgeting to replace the foolish thing when it does start showing signs of stress.
