2008 GT500 Brake Pad Replacement

Hey TS,

I'm getting close to the 30k mark on the GT500, and have had all I can stand of noisy factory front pads (been squealing since it had 400 miles). What do you all suggest for replacement pads?

Here are my goals:

1. Better stopping feel

2. No noise

3. Significantly reduced brake dust

Thanks to all suggestions!

Autozone ceramics will work great for 2 & 3, but not for 1. I do not track but I have read ceramics work great on the street but not the track!

Major,

Thanks for your suggestion. That's a great start to look into.... Any other suggestions out there?

Negative comments I've heard about ceramic's notwithstanding, I tried them on my very heavy 3/4 ton diesel pickup and now use them on all my cars albeit, what you're saying is probably the case.

I'm curious as well. Had ceramics on my 05 vette, cut down the noise/dust remarkably. I do not track these cars so braking performance is not as important to me. Been toying around with the idea for my 07 gt500, but its only got 3000 miles on it, so its more for the benefits of ceramics. Seems like a much easier install cuz of the brembos

I replaced both front and rear pads with the Autozone Duralast Cmax at 7000 miles mainly to reduce the dust. After 3000 miles, my perception is they work just as well as the OEM pads for the street with significantly less brake dust.

Thanks again to all who have commented. Our other vehicles in the family "fleet" have gone to ceramics with nothing but better feel, significantly reduced noise, and reduced dust.

Has anyone ever used Wagoner brand ceramics?

Thanks,

I went with Hawk's Ceramics - same thing - less brake dust, no squeal, and seems to have the same pedal as oem.

Thanks 89...totally off subject, but just curious...does your screen name refer to your '89 Saleen being #215? If so, kinda ironic because I used to know who originally owned 89 #214. There is a picture of #214, 215, and 216 all together in a Saleen book done many years ago. All three cars were white......214 had grey stripes, and was an "Impressor Stage II" car, which are super rare......

Now back to topic! :lurk:

<off topic> Yes, it does. I bought the car as a theft recovery from Beaverton, OR in '91. #215 also had grey stripes. Never heard of "Impressor Stage II" and I know a bit about Saleen's...can you enlighten me?<on topic>

...the Hawk Ceramics are still doing me good (even though I haven't driven in between posts :) )...

Porterfield R4-S for GT500 front and Duramax Pro (AutoZone) on the rear. About 8k on the brakes.

Check float pin on rears, my left rear pin stuck and ground down the pad into my rotor almost ruining it.

Very little noise

Better stopping under "hard" braking.

Some very light squeel, but very rare.

about 75% less brake dust.

Got the Porterfields at myroadster.net...great guys to deal with.
