Thoughts - Shelby Short Throw Shifter

Recommended Posts

GT500 Short Throw Shifter - I'm looking for any thoughts, experience, opinions, on the Shelby Short Throw Shifter T6060 (blue one now discontinued by Shelby & AM). If no longer available, thoughts on a good replacement of the KR shifter. Thanx.

Some time back RobertLane said that Shelby parts is coming out with newly designed short throw shifter. He said it would be out in 45 days. I lost track of the days, but that is what I'm waiting for.

He said that around April 10th. I'm still waiting for an update as well....

Thank you. I'll wait & see as well and contact Shelby (thru my business acct w/ them) and see if they have a dealer update for me. If they do, I'll post here for you.

Read on another forum that the MGW is now going to be the licensed Shelby shifter.

Yep, I saw Roger S. post the same thing on the Super Snake section. He said all Super Snakes will come with an MGW shifter starting on MM/DD/YYYY, and then in the SPP section Robert L. said Shelby was changing suppliers for their short-throw shifters and they would now be made in the USA (which MGW is & the Shelby/Drake is not).

I'm no math wizard but where I come from 2 plus 2 always equals four so I have a pretty good idea that Shelby will be having MGW manufacture their shifters for them in the very near future (and a GREAT move, IMHO).

If you can't wait, just buy a MGW but if you can wait, it's been my observation that when Shelby uses someone's part they put the Shelby logo on it (i.e. Supercharger pulley & Fuel Rails by Metco, suspension parts by BMR, Caster/Camber plates by Maximum Motorsports, etc. etc. etc.) that they generally have them made in a different color, add the Shelby logo and price them the same OR LOWER (as in the Shelby/MM Caster/Camber plates).

So I *suspect* that the new Shelby/MGW shifter will be blue anodized rather than the MGW black anodize AND have "SHELBY" etched into the brace arms AND be the same price as the MGW or maybe even a couple of bucks less.

So if you can wait and having the Shelby logo is important to you, I'd wait.

MGW is a great shifter. You will not regret putting one in your car. As for the Shelby labeled version, if it has a blue handle I think that might not go with some interior combinations. I would prefer a silver anodized handle as that would go with any interior combination or black. Blue?

I wasn't talking about the handle, I was talking about the base and the two rods that mount to the trans. All the parts that are black on a MGW I *suspect* will be blue on the Shelby version. And all of them are invisible from inside the car. I would think the shift lever will still be bright, same as the MGW (although you can't see it for the boot either).

Checked with our Shelby rep today, no new info on the shifter. Did confirm MGW is still making it, not sure of what changes it will have.

Great info...thx. I currently have the FRPP KR short throw shifter and it's a great improvement over stock. I was liking the discontinued Shelby Shifter because if it's direct shift path feature from 2nd to 3rd, eliminating mis-shifts under "fast" shifiting race conditions. Does the MGW shifter also have this feature? I'll check it out more on line as well.
