twobjshelbys
And in most cases you can't collect from the other guys insurance. Even if you see the car or truck in front of you throw the rock that destroys your windshield it's still on your nickel. The logic is that you could kick it up on the guy behind you. It's not a malicious act. The only exception is an uncovered load - trucks that throw gravel off their load are liable (as most states have laws which require them to cover the load.) SteelTownStang
While unfortunate, I’m sure that it’ll be fixed as good as new. It’s kind of ironic that you went through the effort of installing a license plate bracket to protect your bumper…

goldgus
Dude... that sucks. I had one throw a road cone in front of me, and it took out the black plastic splitter (only). So i got lucky, only $100 to replace that. You'll get fixed up god as new.
03reptile
Gad Maddlock! If it weren't for bad luck lately, you wouoldn't have any! So sorry for the damage.
BDrool
Holy smokes, you are having the worst luck with your ride. My condolences...
tedj
That sucks, but look at the bright side. Since they are taking off the front end anyway you could upgrade the cooling system or do some other mod that requires removing the front end. That's ANOTHER rub - I've planned to trade-in the car in a matter of a few weeks.
Shelby.GT500
I know it sucks and would hate it if it happens to me but trade in the car just for that?

bpmurr
That's ANOTHER rub - I've planned to trade-in the car in a matter of a few weeks. Why are you trading it in? At least now you'll probably have a better paint match on your front bumper.
V-8 Vixen
Dang it!!! Isn't that the way it always goes? I guess "Mayhem" stikes again!
Madlock
Why are you trading it in? At least now you'll probably have a better paint match on your front bumper. It began as a desire for an identical Convertible, but I decided in favor of an identical 2012 when the cost delta - after going through a set of tires and being half-way through a set of brakes, was actually laughably little - especially after factoring-in what the cost of Recaros would be. Plus, as part of the deal, I ALSO get first crack at my dealer's 2013 allocation on the same terms - in case Ford goes over the top for the last year of S197 in response to ZL1. Dang it!!! Isn't that the way it always goes? I guess "Mayhem" stikes again! No kidding. If I ever SEE that little b*stard..... I figure it must be because I have such a sweet supercharger that every piece of crap in the universe must find itself magnetically drawn toward the intake. Out here in NV the gravel trucks have those disclaimer "Stay back 200 ft. Not responsible or damage". What a crock. I guess there's never any traffic so that margin is easy to keep! Just curious...with all the rumors of a TVS and 600+ hp (which is going to happen eventually) why don't you just wait for a 2013?
Burning Blue Star IV
Wow...really sorry to hear about this incident, Madlock. I try to stay off the busy highways for the most part, but you just never know what might happen anywhere. I know you said you were thinking about trading it in, but at least the damage is pretty easily fixed.

I don't recall seeing that distance advised before..it's tough to do at times..but I do stay as far back as possible.
ponyboy96
Had a similar thing happen to me this week except I have a big dent in the finder with a paint gouge and a cracked windshield. Dealer said $1300 to get it fixed.

The problem is nobody knows how to tie down a load so all kinds of stuff is flying around and they think that gets them off the hook. If a trooper stops them it is a heavy fine but there's so much of it it's hard to enforce.
Madlock
Saw ANOTHER truck throw an entire tread band today - across 4 lanes of traffic. It actually arced OVER my car. Think I'm going to buy a winter beater to get me through the summer! Ah yes, the infamous POS re-caps that the DOT allows trucks to use in this country. Drive down any Interstate and the shoulders are littered with them. Re-caps are forbidden in Germany and many other European countries. As a result, you don't have to be dodging hugh peices of tire. When are we going to get some sensable laws in this country? Obviously, one of my big pet peeves.
