eagledriver
Big Thanks and kudos to John Keller for throwing a hell of a party! Free car show, GREAT food , unlimited drinks. Man, the guy really knows how to throw a freaking party! Sequoia Supply is an awesome facility too and was the perfect venue for the event. When I got there the car show assistant told me to "park over by the Ferrari around the corner". I thought Ok, HA HA. Sure enough I got to park beside a Ferrari with the Bullitt. Talk about an inferiority complex LMAO! Plenty of Shelbys there, great TS turnout and some really top $$$ exotics as well. Tony and David were there and the Bosses were a big hit as well. Best single part of the event other than the food or the drinks or the entertainment or the eye candy (both automotive and other) was talking with Sam and Gary Patterson from SAI. They are so down to earth and gary walked up to the Bullitt , looked over at the Ferarri beside it and said to me "I'd take the Bullitt anyday, Ferraris are overated." He talked with each of us for a while about Shelbys and cars and racing. Sam let my sons sit in each of the SAI models which I heard about the entire drive home " Dad, can we just get one of each?" Doug_GT350
I couldn't have said it better Andy! J&DGT500
I just wanted to take a minute or two to thank John for hosting this somewhat impromptu Team Shelby event held at his place, Sequoia Supply, this past Wednesday. Ill start by saying this was a joint event in a sense that he has had a trade show/car show for a number of years for his contractors that he hosts at his place of business. How long I cannot honestly say but at some point this year he decided to share his passions for Shelby Automobiles with his very obvious (to anybody who has been there) dedication to his business. That being said while the car portion of this event was set to run from 6-10 I arrived early at about 5:30 to see if he would need any help getting cars parked in somewhat organized fashion. I was however already late for that as he had not only some of his employees directing traffic but another Team Shelby member had beat me there and was already helping keep things organized. The first thing I saw as the pulled around the building was the very prominent display of the Shelby Trailer and Shelby cars as well as Sam Trout already answering questions for many people who were there and wanted to know some more about these great cars. There were two separate stages set-up for the two different bands who played during the event, both which played a fine selection of music and did so very well. While the total number of cars and motorcycles seemed to peak around 40 or so, there were a number of cars that came and left during the evening making it hard to get an accurate count but did allow for a constant changing of cars on display for everybody to view. We had everything from an early 50s Hudson and newer Ferrari, to choppers, Harleys and of course a bunch of Shelbys from 07-12 represented as well as a few other Mustangs in the mix for good measure. The only bad thing, for me at least was I got there early as I mentioned. I knew I was going too treated to some fine BBQ food that night, and as the weather has been really pretty poor this year, I have been unable to really make any of my own, I was really looking forward to this. So I arrived with a healthy appetite and the smell of the food cooking was unbelievably good, and that meant I had to wait. By the time they were ready to serve the food my mouth was watering, the waiting almost seemed like a form of torture to me. But when the time came and the grub was ready to be served, a line very quickly formed telling me I was not the only one who has been waiting and salivating over the tantalizing smells. I can say without hesitation, Kobys BBQ more than delivered the goods. The smells that had teased me for that past 45 minutes or so were backed up by the best tasting BBQ chicken I have had in many years, ribs that fell off the bone and melted in my mouth, and tender, juicy beef brisket the likes of which I have never had before. There was a variety of different BBQ sauces to compliment the different meats, and with sides of potato salad, cole slaw and beans, the only thing missing for me was a recliner to take a nap in when I finished eating. So once again I have to thank John Keller for taking our group of Shelby fanatics to a new level of hospitality, some may even say we are getting spoiled. I look forward to meeting new Team Shelby members in Carlisle and spending time getting to know everybody a little better over some great food while there. So for those of you considering joining everybody at the hospitality tent I will say this, do not hesitate in the least. Based on the people I have had the pleasure of meeting over the past year since joining Team Shelby, and eating some of the best BBQ food I have ever had the opportunity to eat this past Wednesday, I can say this; I believe it highly unlikely you will be disappointed. T-Minus 6 days and counting. *edit* add pictures - the one close up of John's car is actually from Ponies, the other five are from Wednesday. Z-man
J&DGT500 - Great write up and pics! You guys beat me to the punch on this one. I would have posted sooner, but I have been distracted this week with some family health issues that are taking priority. Thanks to all my Team Shelby friends who offered kinds words when I saw them at John's on Wednesday night, and told me they would keep my family in their thoughts and prayers. I had a great time at John's. In the past I have planned a BBQ. I have planned a concert. I have helped run a car show. All of there events took a considerable amount of time, coordination, and planning.....John did all three things AT THE SAME TIME, and he had TWO bands!!!! I was amazed by the cars that showed up. In addition to the Shelby's, and the Shelby Transporter (and all the goodies the Transporter held), there was a Panoz AIV Roadster, an SVT Raptor, a Ferrari, some really nice Hot Rods, A new all black Viper, a pair of new Boss 302's, a Roush Mustang, a few custom choppers, a Bullet Mustang, and probably more stuff that I am forgetting. Inside John's storage area was a Ford GT, an original 1968 GT350, an bunch or Porsche's (where did they come from?), and "someone" parked their brand new Gull-wing Mercedes inside as well. The food was awesome. When I went through the line that asked me if I wanted to start with some chicken, and I told them to skip the chicken and point me to the ribs and briskit....YUM!!!! I'm looking forward to more good eats next weekend at Carlisle, as this is the same BBQ Crew who will be serving us there. I would recommend that anyone who likes BBQ starve themselves for a few days in advance so they will have room to try a little of everything. I must say the potato salad had the most dill in it of any potato salad I have ever had...is was green...but tasted really good. Okay, enough yackin'. My pics can be found here (I didn't bother to edit them, so don't bust my chops about the blurry ones...every spare minute this weekend is being used to get the car ready for Carlisle...I'm only typing this post now because I'm waiting for some paint to dry.) http://s438.photobucket.com/albums/qq106/z-man1234/Sequoia%20-%20%20Team%20Shelby/ Here are a few of my favorites... See you at Carlisle!!!!! Z-man
