'10Kona
Not sure if this news has made its way to many folks in the US, but hopefully most Canadians have heard what's going on. Last Saturday a fire started outside of our small town in Northern Alberta while winds were gusting upwards of 30mph. On Sunday the winds increased to over 60mph and pushed the fire right through our town. The entire population of 10,000 people from the town and surrounding area were evacuated while the fire consumed over 340 homes and numerous businesses including our library and newly constructed town hall. Our town of 30 volunteer fire fighters along with the provincial forestry fire fighters did their best to save our town given the conditions they were dealt with. Had it not been for them, the destruction would have been far worse. They have since received re-enforcements from across the country to continue to help battle the blazes surrounding our town. Please see the following links for pictures and more information: My link My link Please support your local fire department. They are always there putting their lives on the line to protect us and our families. We will always be indebted to them for the services they provide and we can not thank them enough. Sorry to see and hear this the damage is incredible people don't realize how fast fire can destroy an area. I have to say that fireman have balls for going into blazes I have been close to building fires. It takes your breath away and the heat is unberable you want to run in to the building being a cop but you don't want to become a victim.
