Does anyone install front License Plates?

A plastic bracket was provided for mounting it to the front bumper but it had never been drilled for it.

Here in TX we can get pulled over for not having front plates but I've noticed about 5% of cars don't have them.

I don't want to drill the bumper and would fabricate a bracket of some sort to eliminate the bumper holes.

Never, I chalk it up to the cost of looking nice. This violation is now a "fix it ticket" in Texas. I've been stopped three times and have gotten one ticket. Cost me $10 bucks to get it dismissed. I just put a small piece of Velcro on the front of the car, attached the license plate and then promptly removed it.

Most local police don't mess with it unless you get someone who really knows the traffic code well. Texas state troopers will put you on the curb the most. Also, the Texas court of appeals just recently ruled in Twain v State that the license plate MUST be on the front foremost of the vehicle, it can not between the windshield and dash. I have that case law if you want it.

I bought the remote license plate bracket from Ninosporst and it mounts under the front bumper. You can put it up when needed and then put it back down. I think they ought to do away with the front plate on all cars.

They have one that attaches underneath and with a remote control, you can operate it. I dont have one and rather get the ticket here in Texas. the only ones that will stop you for it is the DPS (TX State Trooper). I usually throw it on the windsheild when I hit the interstate leaving town.

Here in Ohio we need two tags also.

The plastic bracket from Ford that came with the car doesn't fit the curve of the bumper anyway.

I've had the bracket from Craigs Custom Mustang Brackets on the wife's 07SGT since Oct 2007.

No problems, no drilling, no tickets.

SO WOULD the remote plates and craigs plate work with a intercooler and lower billet grill never seen one so iam curious if they would work or not .I cut the lip on both sides of original plate bracket so it would fit better .Looks alot better IMO centered but still hated to cover my stripes

I just went through this with my GT after getting pulled over by "Barney Fife" who had nothing better to do than cite me with a fix it ticket. I realize the CS front bumper is a bit different than my GT, but I ordered and installed a CC bracket (to get the citation dropped), but I had to remove my lower billet grill to install it as there was no way to fish the bracket through the grill due to its design.

I pulled it back off the car and sold it already as I plan to just take my chances since that was the first time I have been hassled in 4 years with no front plate.

I have a bracket from craigs also. I used it a couple of years ago on the Mustangs Across America Tour and it worked great. I have never put it back on. Oregon is a two plate state, but I have never been pulled over for it. In fact, I did some remodeling for a county deputy and some work for a state trooper, both saw the car with no front plate. I even asked them about it (yeah, not sure why I asked), but anyway they BOTH said that the officer that were to pull a car over for that would be a cop that was really looking for something to do. Now, if you get pulled over for something different and they happen to see no plate...........

I saw this on a car the other day. This guy had a friend take a picture of his license plate in its frame on the rear of the car. The friend then made a full size vinyl (like the vinyl stripe material) copy with an adhesive backing. He put that on the front of his car. It looked so realistic that I had to make a double take when I looked at it. I asked him if it was legal, he said probably not but no cop traveling at 60 MPH would notice that it was not a metal plate.

I have mine mounted on my garage wall so when I pull in or out . I can remember my plate # :hysterical: and I still can't remember it. Damn meds at least I remember to take them maybe I won't take them before going out to cruise around. Then I can remember things. :hysterical:

Don't be surprise what a cop can see, I arrested a livery driver for doing that in NY its a felony to dup a state or federal document. Livery drivers do this to share plates and registration driving the same cars who would notice. It would have worked if the 2 cars didn't work from the same livery company in the same PCT. :superhero: Also the other scam is the temporay Inspection you get from motor vehicles it gives you a 10 day window to get your car inspected the morons with a marker change the date or photo copy it. In NY never accidently cover your VIN # up even though your plate comes back to the same vehicle color and make but not being able to verify your VIN means. That I have to get into your car to make sure its the right VIN #. OUCH

I have the manual one on my car and it works great. NYS requires a front plate.

I keep it out and tuck it under when I get to a show etc. Unless you are looking for it you can’t really see it when it is tucked away. At a weekly cruise in on long island, the troopers sit wait for cars to leave with no front plate and then ticket them, $75.

take a look at this site...

I have the lower billet grill and intercooler and use Craig's bracket for the front plate. The fine is $110 in SD and I was given a warning ticket prior to putting the bracket on. No problem since.

So here is my license plate story. My car came with the bracket installed from the dealer..ugh are you kidding me? Anyway I had this fixed asap!

So yesterday I'm on my way back from Denver cruising a few mph over the speed limit. I'm starting to crest a hill by an overpass and my radar detector goes off. I quickly realize a CSP (colorado state patrol) is coming down the on ramp trying to get on my six and get a radar lock on me. I'm in the left lane as I crest the hill and I'm closing on a slow moving18 wheeler who is in the right lane. I know from watching Top Gun never let a bogey get on your six so I shut down SGT3184 (GT500 brakes) and match the 18 wheelers speed. The CSP comes shooting down the on ramp trying to get me. He misjudged his approach and he merged in front of the 18 wheeler. He realized his mistake moving over to the left lane and then slowing down to 5 mph below the posted limit. We are now on a very steep down hill with the CSP going slower than the posted limit. On our right is another 18 wheeler moving carefully down the steep slope. The CSP with me in the trail position clear the 18 wheeler. The CSP moves over getting in front of the slow 18 wheeler. I carefully accelerate to the posted speed limit keeping the car in 3rd gear to keep from dragging the brakes. As I clear the CSP and the 18 wheeler the CSP jumps on my rear bumper like a two car draft at Talledaga. We continue down the hill and move past another lumbering 18 wheeler. Once we clear the other 18 wheeler I move over to the right lane as it is illegal to travel in the left lane unless passing another vehicle (stupid law!) As soon as the CSP clears the truck he again jumps on my bumper like Ricky Bobby! He then hits his lights and proceeds to pull me over. I'm thinking WTF? he never locked me up, and I never sped while he was pacing me so what gives. Alway being respectfull to law enforcement as I have many friends and family that serve. I get my license and insurance info ready. When he gets to the window he tells me that I was pulled over because my front plate is missing and that my Shelby frame on the rear covers my month/year sticker. He takes my stuff back to his car to check it out. Upon his return I get a quick lecture on Colorado law regarding front plates and I am handed a warning ticket (no points etc.). I thank him and quickly remove my self from the scene as I now have to re-pass a bunch of cars. I then called my uncle who owns a slower White SGT that has been pulled over twice and ticketed once in Texas for no front plate. We had a good laugh as you know the CSP was not happy about not getting me for speeding.

I'm still not going to put my plate on my car, but I may get the front plate off of my tool box to keep in the car just in case.

My wife was not happy because she never gets out of tickets.

Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

In Texas we also have that license frame law, cant cover the word TEXAS. What if we just carry a license plate holder with our plate and brake off one of the brakets, we can then tell the police that it broke off and we are waiting on a replacement

  • 1 month later...

I live in a state mentioned above that has a front plate law. I guess I'm just very lucky. I have not had a front plate on any of my or my wife's cars in at least the last ten years. I have never been stopped for it. I was once stopped because my front turn signal / running lights were too blue. Even then the cop did not say anything about my missing front plate.

For any State that has the law, I believe it's only a matter of time before you get pulled over for no front plate.

In Texas, the DPS Troopers don't mess around. They usually give a warning. If there's another infraction, you get the citation. I've seen this first hand.

Sometimes the local law enforcement is more lax. Either way, having no front plate or an obscured/partially obscured TEXAS is a great excuse to pull you over. Why even invite it?

Craig's brackets are great.

That's why I keep my front plate firmly bolted into one, resting on my back seat. Just in case.

LOL! Exactly what I used to do when I lived in IL! I got pulled over twice and each time I acted surprised and claimed I had a removable bracket that take it off for car shows and cleaning. "I'm so sorry officer I must have forgot to put it back on!" Reaching for the back and showing it. Both times they let me go telling me to put it back on when I got home. :shift:

Almost forgot! One time I was in a drunk driving checkpoint and the cops were talking to me when one noticed I had no plate. Not sure what I was thinking but I said "Officer, it's a Shelby!" He just looked at me, nodded his head, and waved me on! :shift:
