car dude
Things were looking good my son was healing well and he still is but a few days ago he started breaking out in a cold sweats. He was not running a fever just sweating like crazzy. So we brought him back to the doctor and he said it's the beging stage of infection. So the doctor pulled the PICC line that was still in hopeing that might be the cause. Two days later he is not any better. We decide to go to the pediatrician this time.At this point we now know his white blood count is way high and his lungs sound bad.Looks like it's the start of pneumonia. The doctor gave us a strong antibiotic and said if he does not improve by sat. he will have to put him back in the hospital. And if this was not enough i had planed on makeing the doctors appointment today,i had some one cover one of my accounts so i would get off in time. When i got back to the distribution center there was a big rig tractor parked next to my Shelby. To make a long story short he hit my mirror and rip it off and scratch the paint. At first he did not admit to hitting it only after threatening to pull the video tapes did he admit to it .The car can be fixed it's just one more thing that i really did not have to deal with.So once again i ask for your prays. Thanks Robert

socalwrench
Alright, WTF?! At this point, does ANYONE live in or near New Orleans? Seriously, if I were closer I'd be coming over. Keep it up Robert. You're helping out your family more than you probably know. The doctors honestly thought that his PICC line was causing the infection?..... after all his recent surgeries? Wow. Just make sure he didn't catch one of the common hospital infections like MRSA or VRE. ESBL is on the rise too. I'm afraid I could not have been as cool as you about someone hitting your car. Good luck and keep your chin up.

KCMO-GT500
...I really hate to hear that you are having to deal with this.......I just went thru a few months of this after my college aged son got infection after shoulder surgery......required picc line and IV drugs for over a month to finally end....all while he was trying to stay current with classes. My best advice is to quickly make sure an infection specialist is leading the treatment effort.......we did not see any real progress until this was done.....a generalist or surgeon is just not equipped/trained to do it right. Greg Thanks Greg i will bring up the types of infections when he goes to the doctors tomorrow.I was a little upset with surgeon. From what i understand you can develop a infection from the PICC line. But he did not have it cultured after he pulled it. It's very frustrating as a parent that has no back round in medicine to try and ask the right questions. We are learning as we go but we lack the insite sometimes. We really should have asked to have it cultured and we should have made them do a chest exray. This is his fourth pneumonia in less then a year. I really feel the surgeon should have ordered this with out us asking for it. As of right now he is stable no better but not any worst. The pediatrician wonted to get four doses of antibiotics in him and see how he is doing on saturday. There is a good chance he will go back in to the hospital so he can go on IV antibiotics. socalwrench
Yeah, doctors are people too. There are good ones and bad ones. I'm not passing judgement on yours, just saying. Most of the patients I'd dealt with post op are usually on glucose and an antibiotic. Also, considering he's had PNA four times already, I'm surprised he isn't already on antibiotics. If he does have PNA again, there's not a bunch you can do as a parent other than monitor his O2 saturation and breathing effort. I really wish there was more I could do for you buddy. Just keep us informed, and you, and your family, will get through this too. Greg

Reason I wrote this is New Orleans PD was in a news article that stated they were worse than terrorist.
