Why can you buy the hood but......

Ever since the first 40th Anniversary and Super Snake were offered there has always been the hot topic of exclusivity. To me, the Super Snake hood is the most differentiating part on the car. And yet, anyone can buy the hood directly from Shelby. But, you can't get a set of Super Snake floor mats from Shelby without providing some type of ownership documentation. Neither does their site say you have to provide documentation for that snazy SS strut bar. Makes no sense to me. I own neither a 40th or SS so why should I care? What I am wondering is, if one is sold a couple of times, does this info get back to Shelby if the new owners do not register? Whats to keep someone from copying down a VIN number at a car show and ordering some of the items. Just curious why the big deal about floor mats.

It takes more than just a VIN number to satisfy the proof of ownership requirement for restricted parts.

Yeah, but any yoyo can slap the SHELBY letters across his deck lid, snakes on the fenders and call it a Shelby.........

...and a few years down the road, there will be fake Shelby Mustangs all over. They'll still be fakes. True enthusiasts will seek out the real thing; at least I would.
