Scott SVT GUY
I must report a casualty in the Shelby world.I just recieved a beautiful white Shelby 500 Convertible and due to excitement with customers looking at it I always hide it in the Shop for safe keeping until my owner shows up for his or her delivery.Well last night I was working a Sunday shift and the lotman comes in and says there's smoke coming out of the back of the shop.We phone 911 and wait about 5 minutes firetrucks everywhere.Six foot flames shooting out of the back building.3 alarm fire to say the least but they did a great job and we only lost about 1/2 of the shop,a F150,near new lincoln MKX and a beautiful Shelby 500.My safe keeping didn't pay off but no one was hurt thank heaven we were closed. The tar from the roof burning dripped onto the roof and all over that white paint, being the car enthusiast I am it turned my stomach a bit.The car is fine but paint, top.and major smoke damage makes it a B car now unsuitable to be sold as new.The insurance company will do it's best but we wash our hands of it.The bad thing is my poor customer I had to phone. The thing about selling Shelbys is your customers become friends because of all the follow up and questions for up to 2 years before delivery.Poor guy, I broke the news and he said he felt like he had just lost a family member stomach pains etc.He works way up North in the oil patch and had his family all ready to meet him on delivery ,it would have been like a family reunion,OH Well? Now the good news I got 3 more cars allocated this month and I put him ahead for a new car, this time with the Shelby car cover option he couldn't order with the first build. What can I say a Great car Bites The Dust! ColdwaterHotrod
I feel sick now too after reading that. IMO this is a great example of why you should be at the dealership when the car is unloaded.....so you can take it home Immediately so nothing like this can happen to it. 07Snake
Sorry to say that a red with white stripe GT 500 bit the dust in Atlanta, GA a couple of weeks ago. The guy driving pushed the pedal a bit too much as he was changing lanes on the highway during rush hour morning traffic on 85 south bound. The conditions were damp pavement between lanes. The driver changed lanes from the number two lane to the number three lane and gassed it, the car hit the wet pavement between lanes and did a 270 and hit the 6 foot cement wall at around 60 mph then spun and crunched the rear right quarter panel against the wall. The front bumper cover, grill and facia flew off upon impact and the driver behind ran over the front end and dragged it another 2 miles to work without stopping. Needless to say the front end of the car was pushed half way back to the windshield and the rear end was pushed in at least a foot. It looked like an instant garage sale. Being the owner of a black with white stripe coup I was sick to my stomach for a while. Obviously the traction control can't handle lateral slips at high speed.
