Carroll Shelby Foundation to Receive Partial Proceeds from Sale of 1968 Shelby GT500KR During ABC Reality Show Heritage Auctions, in partnership with ABC and Cineflix Productions, to auction Vintage Shelby

-A new reality TV pilot, hosted by Extreme Makeover Home Edition's Ty Pennington and produced for ABC by Cineflix Productions in association with Heritage Auctions, will sell a 1968 Shelby GT500KR to the highest bidder with part of the proceeds to benefit the Carroll Shelby Foundation. The public can register to bid on the car and watch filming of the show scheduled for Saturday, April 16, on The Queen Mary in Long Beach, Calif.

"Our team admires Ty Pennington and his approach to helping others," said Jenni Shreeves, executive director of the Carroll Shelby Foundation. "Our mission is simple: to provide support to children and medical institutions battling life-threatening diseases and promote continuing education for today's youth. We were excited when ABC and Heritage Auctions approached us about this special fundraiser. Not only will the Shelby's new owner walk away with a legendary muscle car, but they'll also help sick children receive the care and treatment they deserve." Inspired by his personal battle with heart disease and a life-saving heart transplant, automotive racing legend Carroll Shelby established the Carroll Shelby Foundation in 1991. Since its inception, the Foundation has donated funds to numerous organizations and children's hospitals, including Children's Medical Center in Dallas, Mending Kids International and the Children's Organ Transplant Association. The Foundation also helps raise money for America's youth through programs such as Garth Brooks' Teammates For Kids and Jordin Sparks Charities.

In support of the Foundation, a restored 1968 Shelby GT500KR convertible (Lot #3732) will be auctioned with only 31,000 original miles on the odometer. One of 318 total GT500KRs built in the Highland Green and black interior color combination, this Shelby features the original 428 Super Cobra Jet engine. In addition, the car comes with an automatic transmission, air conditioning, an oil cooler, tilt wheel and AM/FM radio.

The Shelby is equipped with the period correct smog equipment, including the air cleaner snorkel that is rare on this type of vehicle. During its 1980s restoration, reproduction Shelby 10 spokes were added to the muscle car. The car is also documented in the official Shelby registry.

"We couldn't be more thrilled to be offering the magnificent Shelby Mustang as part of this auction," said Greg Rohan, President of Heritage Auctions. "The advance buzz in the Shelby community has made it abundantly clear that this car is a gem and will be highly prized by its next owner." The auction is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. PDT.
