sigsauer
I contacted Geico yesterday to get an idea of what insurance would run for my ordered 2012 GT500. The operator put me on hold for several minutes and then came back on the line after confering with her manager to tell me that Geico will not insure the car. I was told that it is considered a "specialty vehicle" and that if it were stolen or wrecked they would only pay for the cost to replace the steel! I was shocked. They currently cover my 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Has anyone else had this issue? If so, who are you using for coverage? I contacted Hagerty as well who said they would write it as an exotic/low production vehicle. I like Hagerty and have used them in the past for coverage on my past 442, Chevelle and Mustang muscle cars. Any thoughts/guidance would be appreciated. tturner770
I'm with State Farm also and very happy. I checked with Geico around 12 years ago about insuring my 1991 Mustang. At the time, it was my only vehicle. The Geico representative I spoke to stated that they wouldn't insure me only on that car. I was told that if I had owned a different vehicle, insured it with Geico, then bought a Mustang, they would have insured it for me as an "existing customer". Apparently, the Mustang was considered a high risk for making a claim. Since this conversation was so long ago, the reasoning may not be the same now. AlexVogel
USAA...traded in 3rd car (was a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo) for the GT500...insurance only went up 86 per 6 months. Think Geico operator was just uniformed.
BlueByU
I called Geico too and waited on hold a long time. The agent said Geico can not insure my 2011 GT500. I then called Heacock and got a GREAT :happy feet: Price $ 590.00 a year. up to 3000mile per year.

BlueByU
I spent one day pricing out car insurance. All State, State Farm, Progressive, High Point they were all $900.00 and above per year and some wanted $ 1,200.00 per year. Heacock was the cheapest. They would be cheaper if my kids did not get spededing tickets.

dbrisson
I have geico no issues, and they just paid to have the front fascia painted after someone hit it in a mall parking lot. So they know its a Shelby, since the adjuster visually inspected and sent it to a ford dealer only. DB

I'm 31 and paying $339 every 6 months from Allstate. $500 deductible, "Pleasure" rated (not my DD) which has no mileage limit (not that I need it I don't drive it in rain or snow) 300/100/100. Best part is I can put it in "Storage" during the winter which lowers the cost to <$15/month. No speeding tickets/accidents on record by the grace of God considering how fast I drive.... sigsauer
Sig......................where do you live in NYC? Do you own a Sig............lol? I hate my 229. I'm in Brooklyn, which may also contribute to my insurance dilemma! It's been time to get out of NYC anyway. BTW, I love my 229 DAK and my 226. ^_^ I've had Geico coverage for a while now and still have my Jeep as well as my homeowners (through a second party due to NY state insurance rules) with them. When I said I was going to pull all of my policies with them, the operator got a little nervous. I still don't have a build date as of yet so I know I still have some time to shop around. Next time I call, I'll speak to a supervisor. Hagerty quoted me $1350 for 1 year, no mileage constraints, very good coverage 100/300/100, additional medical coverage, etc.

dffej51
Just to add a little more to this discussion. I am in the business and you must make sure that your carrier gives you guaranteed replacement cost coverage or stated amount or you will be shocked if you have a total loss. Be very careful when you get a low quote as it probably is not written that way and you don't want to be hung out to dry.!
ram_g
Interesting. I pay ~$1600 per year for use as my DD, no mileage restrictions, high liability coverage. WAY more than any of our other cars (we have 5), all insured via State Farm, in Houston TX. Maybe I should yank the Shelby and shop around for just that one via a specialist provider.... I bet the operator and manager didn't know what a GT500 was. Next time apply for ins for a Mustang. State Farm insures my "Year: 2011 Make: Ford Model: Mustang, Class: 6A3010H000" for $493.84 per 6mo; I suppose that the "Class" indicates a GT500. The 2011 replaced a 2009 GT500. I do have 2 other cars and my house insured with them. They were too expensive for my motorcycles. Good Luck & Good Shopping!
mullens
Geico is a joke. They specialize in high risk. They wanted something like $1200 a year. I'm 56, no chargable accidents, blah blah. I went with Farmers paying $800 full coverage. I guess they have to charge extra to pay for all those annoying commercials.
BlueByU
$ 493.84 + $ 493.85 = $ 987.60 is more money then $ 590.00 a year from Heacock Insurance. (Time to Shop for a new Insurance Company)
