I installed my hood struts today-pics

I installed my hood struts today and got rid of the ugly prop rod. It looks much nicer with the struts, I got them on sale at CJ Pony Parts. They look OEM and work great. Easy install. It took about 1/2 hour.

Those look like no drill, is that correct? I need to get some if so.

Yes, complete bolt on using existing hardware. Very easy one man operation. I just took a pencil and put an alignment mark on the hinge and a mark on the hood. I think they are by far the best looking strut kit. They're still on sale at CJ's.

Put mine on recently too. Nice parts....except for the fact that my passenger side strut broke on Wed. My wife bought me the set for Xmas.....but I don't know if CalPony will still warranty them (CJ only has a 60 day warranty). And they don't come in Sterling Grey !

Bought my strut kit though CJ Pony for x-mas. Did not have a chance to install them yet. I also bought a extra set of struts, in chase later on one of the struts breaks. CJ Pony has a different part number# for the extra struts. If someone wants the part number for theextra struts let me know, I have the part number in my garage.

I also have a 2011GT500 Grabber Blue and looking forward to install my strut kit, when it turned nice out. Great job on your car.

i to have them--the only thing i wish i had done is take off the labels before i installed the struts--i dont want to screw with it now, afraid the stuff i use to get labels off might mar the paint if i get some on the paint

Don't sweat removing the labels. I did the same thing...removed them after install. If you have access to a steam cleaner they come off right away. That's what I used. If not, use Goo Gone and take your time. It's designed to remove glue and stuff and is citrus based so it won't hurt the finish. Yes, those labels have to go.

If they don't warranty them, replcement struts are $29.95 from CJ.

Broke right where the plastic attaches to the ball-joint on the hood bracket - plastic piece had snapped right in half! :censored:

Looks great! I just followed your link and ordered mine. I've been wanting these for quite a while and see these come in Race Red so I jumped on them. $119 with tax.

Thanks for posting!

I installed those on my '11 a few days ago. Got an email from CJPP that they heard of fitment issues for the '11s. I told them to ship them anyway. They arrived and took 30-45 min to install and look great. (I had previously installed a set on my '09)

I see you , like me , live in Canada . How much was the total in Canadian $$$ to get them bought and shipped to you .

$143 CDN. Our dollar is still higher than the US buck but shipping is more for me out on the west coast. They send them USPS/Canada Post and there was no extra duty or charges upon delivery.

Did some research on the next gen hood struts from CJ Pony Cars. They are from CAL PONY CARS. CAL PONY CARS has them in all OEM Colors. I have not called to see if they have Sterling Grey but will be calling. Here is the link to the webpage: CAL PONY Hood Struts

I also called Cal Pony Cars. They are a wholesale distributor won't sell direct to consumers. They are good for looking up part #'s. CJ didn't know about the replecement struts unitl I quoted the part # CAL PP gave me.

Do your own homework. Lol

I bet the bare aluminum would look pretty good and they cost less.

Already tried :P

Below are the email reply's to a comment I tried to leave on their site that they never posted because I guess they don't want customers to know that they no longer cater to 2011 and 2012 model year paint codes.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The manufacturer is saying that Ingot Silver is not yet available for the hood struts. If they become available in the future, we will get them added to our website ASAP. We do have the unpainted/bare aluminum versions available if you would like to have them painted on your own.

I saw your review of part number HDGL6 on our website. I'm sorry that our salesperson couldn't help you out. Which 2011 color are you looking for specifically? There have been a few new 2011 colors released lately.

Thanks,
