Boss 302 launch control

I'm discussing this here because I don't want to rain on the parade of those buying a Boss 302. It's going to be a great performer but I still scratch my head over a few things. Just saw a youtube video on the Boss launch control. You sure ain't using this on the street! By the time you press all the buttons to set it up the other guy is already at the next light! I know we shouldn't street race but my point is this feature is pretty worthless. The Boss is not a drag strip car, it's a track car, so I don't think you really need to worry too much about launching it.

Think that "Launch Control" would be excellent in my Snake? Problem is, being a baby boomer used to just getting in the muscle cars, pulling up to a light, and flooring the beast, I don't think I have the patience to deal with that high tech gizmo. Is there any advantage???

That's really my point. I think most of us, and most mustang lovers, see the need for a GOOD launch control. Something that you just press ONE button and the wheel spin is controlled, allowing you to make perfect takeoffs. But the Boss 302 launch control is next to useless. It takes forever to set up and even then YOU set the RPM limit, so you could set it too high and still spin the wheels too much. Much ado about nothing in my opinion.

Too bad the Boss isn't a drag car. :hysterical:

Some guys will be drag racing them though. I personally would rather have a feature such as this from the factory and only use it on occasion than not have the feature from the factory at all!!! Just common sense IMO. :finger:

Launch control is exactly what a 2 step does for drag racing. Nice feature IMO

I agree, it is pretty cool!! ^^^^^^^^

I can't think of a good way to use that feature (starting out in first gear) on a higher hp level Super Snake on street tires. maybe a 3500rpm launch, maybe?

With the SS, I think it would help with the drivers inability to keep his right foot off the RPM limiter.

It would be fun to play with.

Well the car is not designed for drag racing and if equipped with the optional Torsen differential it could, from my understanding of a Torsen, break the diff.

Noting wrong with having a launch control but the ease of use leaves a great deal to be desired, much better to have a 1 touch launch control feature.

Definitely agree on the 1 touch. What were they thinking.

With the proper tire and suspension setup for traction, the launch control feature should provide consistent 60' times at the track. Robert---NO street tires will provide the traction for our cars for high rpm first gear launches!! :angry22:

Yes, I guess even 3500 rpm's is "high" when attempting to launch a 725 or higher Super Snake if you are on the street with street tires. In the end 1st gear is not usable except normal driving.

My guess is that if you set this BOSS302 launch control before you leave your house, it is set at that level until the key/ignition is turned off? and the next time the car is started, the it would require a reset?

How would you set the rpm's with one touch? It seems like they have made it adjustable depending upon conditions, which do change. If an owner desires the car to always launch at one specific rpm, then yes, it could be set one time and from then only one touch. That is an option that should be incorporated into this.

Your crazy!..what's so difficult about using LC? Once you set the RPM you want, which is so easy, then it always active and ready to go anytime you drive with the TracKey(red key). Also, the torsen diff is very strong and hold ups to dumping the clutch at 6K much better than a regular Traction Loc LS diff. Many drag racers, including myself, have opted in the past to race with an Eaton Tru-Trac diff, and the Torsen is built to be much stronger the Tru-Trac.

It always retains its setting, even if you switch to the silver key, then back to the red key. So no need to reset, unless you purposely want a new launch RPM.
