1970boss302
IF FORD WAS SMART ON THE GT500 THEY WOULD BUILD AS MANY AS 10,000 UNITS IF THEY HAVE THE PARTS. THEY WOULD ALSO START DROPPING HINTS ABOUT THE NEXT LIMITED PRODUCTION MODEL THEY ARE GOING TO PRODUCE.. BOSS.. MACH1.. GT350..ETC. KEEP THE INTEREST IN THE MUSTANG GOING BACAUSE GM AND CHRYSLER WANT A PIECE OF THE $$$$$ PIE.. .............. FORD GET TRUCKING OR GET LEFT BEHIND...... I think that Ford will come out with another special car soon which will satisfy those who can't get the GT500 now .They have already expanded the current options on all other 07 Mustangs. When they come out with the next Boss version that should keep the interest going, after all it was this kind of thinking by Ford that spawned the Challenger and Comaro concepts. Don't forget we still have the GT500 in 08 also,so there is plenty of still time..
Five Oh B
THEY WOULD ALSO START DROPPING HINTS ABOUT THE NEXT LIMITED PRODUCTION MODEL THEY ARE GOING TO PRODUCE.. BOSS.. MACH1.. GT350..ETC. Not a good plan. Ford did this in 2004 while there were still a lot of 2004 SVT Cobras to be had. They mentioned the new body style and a new more powerful Cobra was on the way in two years (turned out to be 3 years), so sales of the 2004's tanked as people decided to wait for the new (retro) body style and more power. My advice to Ford: Promote what you have today. Keep quiet on what's coming until sales of today's toys starts dropping and you need a boost. If you let the cat out of the bag to early, you kill sales of what's already here (or soon to be here).
PlatinumLion
Keep in mind the limiting factor will most likely be the engine. If Ford follows past Cobra/SVT vehciles patterns, then the engine will be hand built by a team of 2 guys. They build the engines not during their regular shifts, but rather build them after the regular job is done. So Ford could build more cars, if they sacrificed the hand build aspect of the car. I wonder if it would matter to some that their engine was mass produced versus being hand crafted. Kind of like buying a poster of a work of art. It looks the same and probably provides much pleasure, however it would not be the real deal. If you do not want the real deal just buy a regular GT Mustang and a Whipple supercharger and be done with it. You will have a Fast car. But if you want the real GT500 with the presitge associated with it keep in mind that the number of cars will be limited.

I remember Ford introducing the Thunderbird roadster in 1998, 1999 and 2000. By the time it came out, people were over it. I agree though - if there is a Boss or KR coming out, Ford should try and keep it under wraps.

That is the way to go for Ford. If not there will be a lot of 07's on the lots. For customers that is the best time.
angelmav
I was one of those shouting from the rooftops they needed to build more, but with the speculation about a GT350, a California Special and other special projects in the works I dont feel nearly as strongly. I backed off on the Mustang GT because the shelby was in the pipeline, I want something a little extra because this car is to be a toy, one I hope to keep for many years to come, not a daily driver which is really what the mustang GT is meant for (more or less). To know that there are going to be other options in the near future besides the GT 500 that could be equally as cool to play with on the weekends is a comforting thought! As to the thunderbird, I remember being Wowed by it and when I went to price it the sticker shock was OUTRAGEOUS! That more than anything in my opinion killed it. The miata originally came out under 10,000 then demand pushed the price to where the dealers were getting all sorts of ADMU. They never gave the Thunderbird a chance to find a market pricing it so high from the get go. I for one never looked at one again.
