txcharlie
Is there anyone in the Tyler, TX area with an '11 GT500 with SVT package that would be willing to give me a ride? I am thinking of replacing my '08 with an '11, but I DO NOT like stiff suspensions. And since hell would freeze over before a dealer lets you drive a new one, a ride along is my only way to find out if I would like the new SVT suspension, cause there aren't any used ones for sale in the area. I just bought a KB for my '08 and if I like the '11, I'll hold off on installing it and put it on the '11. Or maybe order a '12 at invoice. Decisions, decisions. If you can get the '12 at invoice, go for it. The best a dealer here would talk to me about was MSRP. The showroom models had a +$5000 "market adjustment" to them. The problem with asking a dealer to drive the Shelby, is the fear that the supercharger might become "activated", so to speak, and I sure wouldn't buy one that already was, so you can't blame them for being very jealous with the cars. 07SGT4578
I've "activated" the supercharger on several GT5's at my local dealership. They knew I had no interest in them, and most were pre-sold. They just let me take them for a spin, as they do with anything they ever have on the lot. I think it has more to do with having a good relationship with the dealer as I do. What I'm getting at is this. If they won't let you drive the car, go find another dealership. Chris edit: spelling I would never do business with a shady place like that. I think it has to do with them being dishonest more than your "good relationship" with them. The dealership I bought my car from, and the dealership I used to work at, cordon off pre-sold cars and you are not allowed to even touch them. txcharlie
I would most likely have to go out of state to get one at invoice or close to it, as the economy in Texas is not as bad as many other areas. I would never spend that kind of money without knowing that I like how it rides and handles.

BDrool
There has to be someone that can give you an idea if the ride is firmer or not. I know there have been members that have already traded in. The harder part, IMO, would be trying to compare the Standard GT500 vs the performance package vs the '08 GT500 ride. But, lots of members have been on both '11 models and could probably explain the harshness difference.
roush1486
The ride on the SVT package is not too much stiffer than the on a standard GT500. I have a 2011 without and drove both of them. I am a salesman in NC and will let anyone take a car for a spin. I just like to standard wheels and tires, SVT package really doesn't like colder weather or rain.

Since you are a salesman, you should know that all GT500's, since '07, are SVT engineered. Some just have the Performance package as an option, known ast the SVTPP. Also, the GT500's love the cold, with the exception of the tires.
roush1486
I can set both cars side by side and in 40 degree weather my car will hook better the the SVTPP as that looks better to you. This is proven and has been done on 3 different days.

NAJA, The standard, SVT, comes with Goodyear F1's. The SVTPP comes with the Goodyear F1 G2, generation 2, tires. Don't really know what the the difference is except the F1 G2's have a noticeable tred pattern difference and are supposed to be improved. Why the F1's hook better in the cold over the F1 G2's, I don't know. The F1 G2's were supposed to be better. My GT500 is a '10, so I didn't get the option. roush1486
Well, he explained to tire question and the tire tread is different but lets line em' up. I will only have my car for about another month and then it is off to Shelby to become the 800hp SS. Takes some time as they only order 6 K.B. superchargers at a time. 6 piston all the way around, cooling system, and Eibach coil over and sway bars, I feel that will be enough to hold the road. Pics will come.
BDrool
So, you've driven them both and the F1's are better Then why would I want to pay the premium price for the SVTPP? I can put an equivelant suspension package on a '10 or '11 for less and make it better? Your the salesman, sell your product...
roush1486
I sell truth. Have an order for a 12 to arrive first of March and better decision to the customer was to go the the Ford FR3 suspension package which he did, installed on site. Saved him a little money and another happy customer. If you would ask me which would is better in my opinion I would go without the SVTPP. Just another marketing tool is all. There is absolutely no question (concerning stock units) that the 2011's out perform the 2010's, and the 2011 SVTPP's out perform the 2011 Non-SVTPP units. Even Chevrolet put the advanced Goodyear F1/G2's on the 2011 Corvette Z06 (and soon to be released 2012 Camaro ZL1) to increase traction performance. Warn you though, I beat the hell out of this car and have taken a Z06 on I440 here in Raleigh last week. Either he was scared at going over 120 on a busy road or just didn't know how to drive. Saw him this morning on my way to work and he didn't even speed up this time.
