SHELBY1962X
Just picked up the GT500 on Friday and figured it would be sitting until late spring because of the snow. We just had a day of upper 50's and rain so the roads were clean and clear. This morning low twenties, time for a drive. I was blown away by the power on that car. I had a BOSS 9, and a few 60's GT500's but never did I drive anything this strong. Easy on the throttle so I would not spin the tires and shifting at 6,000 the speedo was well past 100, unbelievable and the sound from that engine is a beautiful thing. I laid into the throttle from a roll and never felt such wheel hop, thought the rear end was going to blow apart, is that common on these? My '01 Cobra was bad but this is ten times worse. I know the low 20's temp didn't help matters with the tires.
thewheelman
Congrats! The wheel-hop and it's remedies are discussed at length in other places on this forum. It's a fun problem to have--more power than traction! Have fun and keep 'er shiny side up!
BAD500Chris
Swap upper (mainly) and lower control arms and the wheel hop goes away. Congrats on the new ride!

shel-b001
Yup at those temperature the tires are like hockey pucks be careful the rear will come around on you in a hurry. For wheel hop UCA & LCA should do it.

bullittmansparts
Welcome 1962 X, I thought about it today, but at my power level its a lost cause. I'm about an hour east. Rochester. As the guys said, do some mild suspension mods and/or lowering rear and you will be good to go.
SicShelby
These cars act night and day in cold or hot weather. I wasn't paying attention really in mine a few weeks ago, I think the temp was ~50 degrees or so. I was so confident in how the car handled in warm weather and didn't think enough about it, until I was facing the other direction in the street... :o Have fun! Give a little more caution to those tires when they're cold.

Gotta slow down below 50 degrees!

skiph
And I love the rolling start myself When I get someone new in the car that has not had the GT500 experience, depending on how much runway I have, I'll do a rolling start in 2nd, or rolling start in 3rd. No shifting involved..just use my fingers to sign THREE....TWO....ONE...then puch it until I hit 6-6.5K. The most common reaction. Holly

SHELBY1962X
Finally the first warm day in Western New York, it went up to 77 degrees and decided it was time to go for a ride and enjoy the Shelby. I have to say it is a blast to cruise in and it definitely gets a lot of attention. With the warm weather the wheel hop is a lot better than when it was 20 degrees out but it is still impossible to put the power to it. Can't understand why the SVT team does this crap year after year, it's been over ten years with the same problem on all the SVT Mustang. I've read a lot of different solutions to the problem and not sure which way to. I'm not going to race the car or really abuse it but would like to be able to do an occasional burn out and bang 2nd, 3rd without the tires bouncing like a basketball. What is everyone's opinion of the Shelby UCA and bracket, will this eliminate the hop? Trying to keep it as original as possible.
Tob
It was nice out today (finally!). I'm in the Lewiston/Niagara Falls area, so I'm with you on finally being able to get in the car and stretch its legs a bit. Trying to keep it as original as possible. Then get the Roush piece. I couldn't be more satisfied with mine. Write up on it and more below... http://www.svtperformance.com/forums/shelby-gt500-150/635669-parts-mm-xd-rlcas-panhard-bar-roush-uca.html
