CS/6 Hood Question

Recommended Posts

Need some feedback from anyone with a CS/6 hood on their car.....

I am curious, the hood fits nice on the car but one thing that has concerned me is the amount of pressure needed to shut the hood once it is resting on the spring latch. You kind of have to exert some pressure to get the hood to latch and I am curious if this is normal and if repeated hood closures will mess up the hood? . Is that normal for the spring latch to be pretty stiff?

Also, I have one hood pin that regardless of what you do the round spring loaded clip will pop out of the holes of the pin when you fold it over to lock it in place....anybody else experience that? Do I just need to order replacement clips/pins?

Thanks for any help/advice/experience you can share....

I have the Deep Draw hood installed and it latches just fine on my car.

I had the same problem with the round spring loaded clip for my hood pins. No matter what I did it kept popping off also. I lost one when I got a bit froggy on the gas pedal

so I took off the other one until I can get a replacement. Another option is to find a similar but better one. I haven't had any luck. If you do, let me know.

Jessie,

Thanks for the reply. Did you install the hood or was it on the car when you bought it? I was just a little concerned because of having to push down fairly hard on a fiberglass hood. If you push in the center you can actually see the hood push in slightly but it goes right back into original postion when its latched. Of course the original hood was just as stiff to close...

If I find a remedy for the pins I will post it here....

Thanks Jeff, just saw your posting!!!

I've had a CS-6 (Hertz) hood on my SGT since it was new and have had no problems. The best way to shut the hood is to hold it about 6 inches from closing then just "drop" it onto the latch. Pushing down on even the stock aluminum hood can cause damage. The hood pins are a little goofy, so sometimes you can just totally remove the ring and re-attach in a reverse manner slightly bending it to fit. . Another solution is to clean out the hole the ring inserts into. Sometimes the holes have manufacturing sludge in them or are just not deep enough. Be careful as you drill it out (slow speed on the old variable drill) so not to damage you or the part. Hope this helps.

My experience with these hoods is that you have to drop them for them to latch without causing damage to the hood. If you just close the hood and use your palm(s) of your hands to latch them you will create stress cracks in the fiberglass or at least in the paint.

And yes you need to replace those rings. Once they are bent out of shape they wont ever work correctly from then on. This of course happens from releasing the hood latch before removing the pins.

Thanks to everyone responding to this post. I have the stock strut tower brace on the car, I am assuming everyone else does too? It just seems like the clearance is tight maybe because of the hood insulating blanket being new as well? I am a bit scared to drop the hood through the hood pins assuming that the hood pins could maybe catch the hood if things weren't just perfect and crack the hood....but it sounds like that is what everyone esle is doing..
