denohew
Happy New Year to all my Shelby buddies. Went to the store yesterday and as I always do I parked way away from parked cars. I mean WAY away as I always do. I don't care if I have to walk a mile! After returning to my car, of course, there was a truck parked right next to me. There was tons of parking elsewhere but this Texas moron decided to go out of his way to park 3 inches from my car. Gave me a nice door ding. I was furious. I waited for him to return with no avail. So I keyed the living shit out of his piece of s*** truck and left. I can deal with it but as all of my fellow Shelby owners know it is irritating as hell! Happy New Years and watch where you park! Anybody else have this happen to them? RRRRRR! Ok I am better now, regards, denohew
2sharpie
I'm surprised no one has replied with the "you shouldn't have done that yet" crap..........BUT whenever some asshat parks like that next to me car I want to donkey-kick them AND their car. Good for you - it just sucks no matter how cautious you are, there is always someone A-hole willing to make the extra effort to ruin your day. Hope the ding is small and easy to pop out. twobjshelbys
I'm surprised no one has replied with the "you shouldn't have done that yet" crap......... So I will. Bad post. You just admitted your guilt and there is no doubt you're on the parking lot video. If you'd gone to the mall security you might have been able to find out who did it. Now almost assuredly he will. You should have taken photos, called the police to get a case on file, recorded license info, and waited. Sorry, but two wrongs don't make a right. I'm not sure where you live but there aren't many Shelby's around. He might find your car another time and do more damage. It's tempting an eye for an eye. Would the police take a report about a door ding? They have better things to do especially when departments are cutting back. Take pictures, try the report and contact insurance is the legal means. sherpa
jus wondering if it was a shelby parked 3 inches away from you, u still gonna key? sorry to say you got karma coming. u never physically saw the door ding from the truck, you didn't attempt to see if any camera catch any footage, and there are no witness. to satisfy and to make you feel better, you keyed the shit out of the other car, great, a real role model for society. if you are that anal about door dings, why left unattended? every time you take the baby out, you are taking a chance, remember you can't control OTHERS! i don't condone this either but i would've give u more props if you waited till the owner of the truck came out and investigate and duke it out like a man. Cdvision
We risk the chance of door dings (among other injuries) to our cars every time they are parked in a public lot. Unfortunately most people out there look at cars as transportation and have little respect for other peoples cars no matter how nice. Door dings can easily be removed by any competent paintless dent removal guy for usually less than $60 per ding. By keying a POS truck the guy was probably happy and got a new paint job for the price of his deductible. Then everyone pays in the future with higher insurance rates. I know it's tough to take sometimes but it's usually better just to walk away.

I don't care about the two wrongs don"t make a right deal. Had a guy park right next to me (almost in the same stall!) with my last new Mustang. Same deal as you described above, there were tons of spots close but I parked a mile away to get away from everyone. I was ticked so I waited for the guy to come back out and I said something smart to him like "nice parking job"....he seemed startled and said he was a "car guy" and claimed he did it to protect my car...so no one else could park next to me. Still to this day I don't know if I believe him or not.
Grabber
When you park in the North Forty, you should try to get a endo spot and then crowd the endo line.
SVT NAJA
When you park in the North Forty, you should try to get a endo spot and then crowd the endo line. If you're going to park that far out, and there truly isn't a demand for a parking stall, then take two endo spots and park at an angle across the dividing line. If someone then messes with your car... they were probably goinng to do it regardless of where you parked. There's no stopping that kind of idiot. SGT/SC#0471
I think when you take two spots all it does is draw attention and potential vandals...justa carry 5 gallons of gas and a lighter and then you can truly set those door dinging misparkers straight, I mean lets see them get home now, I'll give em..."transportation"... You should have taken photos, called the police to get a case on file, recorded license info, and waited. Sorry, but two wrongs don't make a right. I agree. I was in law enforcement for 28 years and if I had received a call from the truck owner you can be sure a citation at least would have been issued for damaging the truck. If you are that concerned then leave the car at home or only take it to events where you know that others will treat your car the same way you would treat theirs. I dont have any door dings yet but unless you saw the other person do it then you have no recourse but to "put up with it". I dont know of any law enforcement agency that would take a report on this but all you can do is either fix it with one of the "dent pro" businesses yourself or turn it into your insurance company. kpevin
I park next to nice cars all the time to help them out, I dont door ding them though lol. But i'm sure when they walk up and see my truck parked next to them they freak out until they get close enough to see I left a good distance between them. Sometimes its just an old man/old lady and they tend to park next to the nicest car in the lot, have no idea why but they always do, and they are usually driving '79 T-bird or something with 6' long doors. These cars are door ding magnets - nice, long flat sheetmetal just begging for it. It sucks, but the sad fact is most likely he dinged your car by accident (98% of the motoring public can care less about a Shelby Mustang, a car is a car to them), but you scratched his truck up on purpose. goldgus
I know how you feel - door dings make me nuts, but you had no right to "key the Sh!t" out of someone elses vehicle - ESPECIALLY if you didn't see it happen. If you're on that parking lot video, you've got vandalism charges coming against you... and maybe an ass-kicking if the owner of the truck is a hothead. Next time just spend the $50 to get it fixed, walk away and be the bigger person about it.

Torched10
+1. +2--- Being a Bronx kid that would have been my instinct as well--but then i would have thought about the next payback. If Im that guy and i know that a new GT500 driver did this,id be visiting that Mall unitl i saw that car there, and do the same thing to the Gt500--then whats next?? i guess im saying i might have done it if I knew i wouldnt be caught, but being caught would be much worse than the initial ding--sorry it ahppend to you,but be careful about bringing your car to the same spot

2sharpie
Now I'm not saying he should have keyed his car... but I understand. That was my point too, i guess I should've worded my response a little better.........I've had asshats park like that next to me but (knock on wood) didnt get the ding. If the Shelby is really unique, or not that many around where you live - you have to worry about the guy seeing your car again. And if he DIDN'T do the door ding but remembers your car next to HIS, you have to worry about retaliation. Don't really condone a massive keying.......but ABSOLUTELY understand the anger finding the door ding. Maybe the keying was a bit extreme.....too bad there wasn't a bucket of dogshit laying around instead !!!!
denohew
Everybody relax! The truck was like 20 years old and the "keying" just gave him a cool racing stripe! I was 100 yrds. from the nearest car and then I walk out to see that. I should have set it on fire, oh but that would be arson and all the cops that monitor my threads would swarm on me, please! SicShelby
Very true. If the truck owner feels like being a further d!ck because of what happened to his truck... he might not just be bent over denohew's car, but whatever GT500 he sees regardless of who it belongs to, and that sucks for anyone who owns a GT500. And +1 denohew... watch where you park your car even moreso now because in the event that he is looking for your car again for payback... it sure ain't going to be a door ding! KEYSTONE
Hmmm, I like spirit of the gasoline/arson approach, but it seems a bit heavy-handed. Here's an alternate scenario. Head on over to a parts store or automotive section of Wal-Mart and buy yourself a valve stem wrench. Should cost you about $2 and it's easy to store in your glove box. If somebody close-parks and damages your car, I've heard it said that you can slip between your car and their car and simply unscrew their valve stems. I've heard a recommendation to lay on your back while doing this, so you can see approaching people by looking out from under the car(s). I've also heard that sunglasses, a hoodie/hat and an obscured plate on your car make you difficult to identify on video. Of course, I'm not sure what criminal charge can come from releasing compressed air into the atmosphere, with no damage to the tires, but I'm not a lawyer. If you're a nice guy, you can flatten one tire and leave the valve stem on the ground right next to the tire. If you're feeling less social, you might deflate two or more tires and throw the valve stems away. Replacing the valve stem caps after deflation is a nice way to enhance the initial visual impact of the scene, as someone's first thought will be "crap, my tires have been slashed!" . This also helps ensure that the AAA guy who arrives for the rescue will not bring replacement valve stems with him Or, here's another humorous anecdote: A friend of mine once was pulled over by a cop for no rear license plate on his car. Seems the plate fell off his car, but it was a puzzler because it was screwed on pretty well, or so he told the cop. After some hassle from the cop, he also had to go through some DMV hassle and lay out $20 or so the next day, to get a new plate. He was still puzzled as to how it fell off, when it dawned on him that he had close-parked next to some dude's Corvette at the local mall the day he lost the plate (he was a bit immature back then and was jealous of the 'Vette). He went back to the mall parking lot and found his rear plate, crumpled up and tossed in the bushes. Seems Mr. Vette knew how to screw him back, but good. I agree with the earlier poster. If you take the time to park out in the north 40, go diagonal and take up two spots. Anybody dicking with your car then has no defense (there is no way he was "protecting your car" or just parking next to you...) and thus might deserve a vanishing valve stem, or two, or three, or four...... Disclaimer: this post is a humorous anecdote and the author does not condone vandalism or criminal behavior, so Dudley Do-Right et. al. can spare me the legal lecture...... Ezareth
If I had known beyond a doubt that the truck did it (Easy to line up corners on door dings, especially if the vehicle is sitting 1-2 feet higher than your vehicle) I'd have kicked the drivers side door in and probably smashed the windows as well. Nothing worse than messing with a mans car.....if people don't respect your property, don't respect theirs. Maybe next time they'll think twice before they intentionally do that crap.......but judging by your story that type will never learn. I also advise never double parking your car....it just invites Aholes to block you in....never fails.
