Jer
What is the easiest way to produce a little more horsepower with out a supercharger or internal adds? Bolt on or tune items?? Which are best and easiest??? My first mod was Steeda underdrive pullies and a good dyno tune at a local shop. Good seat-of-the-pants results, not terribly expensive. Got 20-25hp, I'd estimate. shelbytexan
What is the easiest way to produce a little more horsepower with out a supercharger or internal adds? Bolt on or tune items?? Which are best and easiest??? I installed a Brenspeed tune and it did make a difference in the feel of the car. The best bolt on was a 410 gear change. It felt like i installed 50 hp. There is no better mod for the money for a n/a car.You could spend over 2000.00 on mods and still not have the same results. I know because i did just that with tune, shorty headers, and aluminum drive-shaft.

People debate WHICH ones, but the general concensus is 4.10 for a non-supercharged car, 3.73 if you're going to supercharge. Opinions abound, but if you have a manual trans car, 4:10 will be a VERY short gear (as in, once the car is rolling, shift to second gear!). <div>If you have a good tuner near you, the Brenspeed, VMP, etc... "canned" tune will not equal a talented tuner in your neighborhood, but will still be better than the Shelby/FRPP "50 State Legal" one... if you can find someone good, get it tuned for your car, run on a dyno.... the "local personalization" makes a difference. They will accomodate your local available fuel octane, elevation, etc....</div><div><br></div><div> Jer </div>

Jer Agree, you don't hang around very long in any gear but when turning corners you can just shift to third instead of second and fourth gear is a great gear for entering the ramps on freeways. To many people are scared of 410's on account of the old days when you only had 4 speeds but times have changed. It cost to much to mod and get the aceleration most people want so gears are the best choice for the money. Merry-Christmas.

ilmor
Now I don't know if I want 4:10's or not, again...reading about such short gears, shifting right into second after a stop...I just cant make make up my mind...3:73 may be a better, all around choice for me. Definitely, however, I will be going w/ a Brenspeed Tune on mine, and some U/D pulleys. Once I see how that is I'll decide on the rest. I also think bolting on some lighter weight, where possible, is good...the aluminum d/s (although costly), a lightweight battery, etc. Brenspeed was supposed to be having a Christmas sale, however it doesn't seem to be happening yet as I type this... Ididn't mean to scare you but you would feel very little difference going from 355's to 373's. These gears are already to close to feel a great difference. If you aren't sure then you need to find someone who has 410's and try theres. It wouldn't do anygood to drive mine as i'm supercharged. Believe me when i say you will love them. No better mod for the money. I've done the d/s and i really didn't feel any difference all though if i had a before and after dyno there would probably be a slight difference but no seat of the pants feel.Your first romp on the gas with 410's you will see what i'm talking about. I don't know of anyone on the forum who have 410's and regret it.. Besides, shifting gears is part of the fun in these cars. Your going to have to go thru all the gears to get to 5th anyhow so you will do it just a little sooner with 410's. Good-Luck.
Son of GT
A couple of folks say that the new FRPP intake manifold gained them 30 H.P. That's just a bolt on part.
ilmor
A couple of folks say that the new FRPP intake manifold gained them 30 H.P. That's just a bolt on part. Based on the stats I've seen and the reviews I've read, the new FRPP gains only a little (5 or 6 hp) at high rpms, and actually looses torque, on a stock engine. If the engine has mods such as cams, headers, heads, etc., that's when you'll get the 30+ hp gain.
Stormracer
In regards to this thread, where would be the closest custom tuning(hands on) to Meford, OR? Any help would be appreciated!
kahmann
^For an NA, lightly modded car, you're just as well served by a reputable mail order tuner as you are with a local dyno tuner. You'll also save lots of dough by using Brenspeed as opposed to Billy Joe's local tune shop for a predictable setup. Good luck.

fatboy
mine being a daily driver. 4.10 gears would be anoying. i already drive through town in 4th gear at 2k rpm. i'll have to go into 5th and bog around town if i get 4.10s. if ur goin to race it, then sure, get the 4.10s. if i do anything i'd like to get the Brenspeed tune, cams, headers. always love the look of headers, and the lope soundin cams. it may not be much HP for the money but the motor would look good and sound good at the tail pipe and the Brenspeed will gimme a lil more feel of power. but thats for me. oh and i need to get some adjustible shocks. Ford racing shocks are takin its toll on me i made some overtime money. and got some saved up. now i need to go to ford shop and make it happen. maybe this spring. would they put Brenspeed tune in it? You can buy the brenspeed tune from brenspeed and install it in about 5 minutes. Your Ford dealer will not install a brenspeed tune in your car,in fact most Ford dealers won't install any part unless it is a genuine ford part or ford racing part. As for as the 410's go, you wouldn't be boggin your car down in 4th or 5th gear with these gears. If you can find someone who has 410's in there n/a car then you will be supprised if you drive it.It just might change your mind about them. It changed mine.
