Hiking Camelback MT in Phoenix AZ

Recommended Posts

Sat. afternoon Tana and I hiked up to the top of Camelback Mt. at Echo Canyon in Phoenix AZ. The hike was more difficult than we imagined. It was a mile and a quarter up and then the trip back down was just as tough. It started out climbing old wood stairs spiked into the ground and then turned to rock and boulders. I brought a pack with water in it and we made several stops to catch our breath. I proud of Tana for making it to the top as I know it was very tough for her to do. My legs were pretty sore yesterday from the climb.

Here are the Pic’s. It was cool to see a couple Christmas trees at the top.

Nice pics Grabber.

Camelback mountain is a really nice quick morning hike.

I had my vert out Sunday for about 4 hours. It sure was a great weekend.

I know you guys call this season your "Braggin weather" and I can see why. I have been working in Chandler since august and it was 108 to 113 for months. That was tough to handle, but this 70 - 80 weather is very nice. happy%20feet.gif

I'm a desert rat. I love heat. It's too cold for me here now and we haven't even hit the coldest time of the year. I think of southern Arizona this way. (Northern Arizona by Flagstaff gets lots of snow, more than we do here in Colorado). If you live outside of the tropics you're going to spend some amount of time in shelter. That period of time can be to stay warm because it's cold outside, or it can be to stay cool because it's too hot outside. Now think of it. Has anyone ever shoveled 8 feet of 105* off the sidewalk?

I like snow to visit but don't like to live in it. Phoenix was nice - two hours to Payson for all the snow you could ever want... 4 hours to Flagstaff to ski (which I do not).

Just to put things in perspective, the western side of the Continental Divide (the I70 Corridor) will have more than 8' (yes, feet) of snow before Thursday. We've been in the 50's on the eastern side of the Front Range.
