thefishingdoctor
rear tire went flat due to sheet metal screw. used oem ford inflator as per factory instruction. despite slow speed, screw came out 5 miles down the road and i am still cleaning off dang flat goo 6 months later. no more fix-a-flat for me. have razors and nittos now. will place oem front tire/wheel in trunk, but have 2 questions. 1) posts have me confused re brake clearance. will front wheel clear front and rear brakes? 2) easy way/on line source for mustang gt scissor jack purchase. thanks, budman
pmustang
I bought my ford jack and all assorted kit and kaboodle off ebay for about 45 bucks. It was the whole unit including hold down screw, cloth bag thing wit the jack handle and the rest of it, was a take off from a wrecked car. I am sure you can find another given a few checks on the bay. I would rather buy everything out of a parted car than try to put together the kit. I am using one of my front OEM wheels/tires as a spare. It fits in the trunk "cut-out", but sets up a little higher than the carpet/floor level. I plan to purchase another truck carpet board and cut it out for a better appearance. I purchased a Ford scissor jack and universal tire/lug wrench. It all fits nicely in the trunk. Yes, it clears the front and rear brakes… and purchased the Mustang scissor jack on ebay.

If it works on the front, it will work on the rear. So, should you decide to buy a smaller wheel/tire combo (better fit in the trunk), just make sure it works on the front. oldlugs
Better and less messy than "fix-a-flat goo", is to use a rope seal type plug. You can buy the complete kit, or better quality individual tools and rope seals at any good auto supply. NAPA auto parts has good stuff. I've driven on rope seal plugs for as many as 20K miles, without problems. While they can't be used on all flats, they'll be perfect for most puncture flats, but need to be properly installed. Easy with a little practice.
jsarkis
I also use the plug & glue for nails & such while on the road...same as Oldlugs. Just turn your wheel if it's the front and pull out the thingy, then glue the plug and stick it in, then inflate. Easy as long as it's not on the sidewall. skiph
I would think you could pick up a take-off factory front wheel and tire in the classifieds without breaking the bank. And it's snug, but it fits.
