Wheel Center Caps GT, GTH

Recommended Posts

Has anyone tried the wheel center caps from Shelby Performance. I have a GTH and those center caps look pretty good - better than the "mustang" ones. But for $100 a set ,I am on the fence. What do you think? Casey

I have used them on stockers and they look / work great .... I'm going to see if they still work on th CS56's

They do work great on the stock wheels as I had some on my stock Shelby GT wheels. I would not try the Shelby GT or Snake center caps on GT4 wheels though. I tried that and they did not fit. Shelby has them listed as 2.5" in diameter however they are not long enough for the GT4's. Just my experience.

I bought them for my stock wheels - nice fit, looked great.

Now if I could only find better-fitting center caps for my Shelby Razors... with no snakes on them, as well... the ones that came with them don't do it for me.

What caps did you end up using on the GT4 wheels?

I just ordered these for the new black GT-4 wheels. I'd rather have the Berg cobra but these will do until the other is available.

Nice! I'm glad to see Shelby Wheels sell them and in a color other than red or blue. I had actuall called Shelby wheels and sent emails asking to buy a set and was never contacted in return.

When you intall them, remove the spring clip before snapping them into the wheel. It makes things much easier. You can reinstall the spring using some needlenose pliers after the cap is on the wheel to look them in place.

Also, when it comes time to have the tires replace I would remove the center caps ahead of time. The caps are so snug I would worry they would be damaged by the tire shop when the go to balance the wheel as they will have to remove the caps to secure the wheel to the machine.

Jer, no idea if they will work on the razors. If you can find a SVT center cap off of the 1st Gen GT500 or maybe talk Rush into sending you one of the caps from his GT4 wheels you can test it out without.

Post a close up picture of your current cap. If it's flush with the wheel, then I think the CS caps will work. The diameter of the cap and/or hole is right at 2 1/2 inches.

IMO they suck!!!! $100.00 for 4 dull little pieces of plastic. Glad to say that was the only mod that went bad for me. Had them on the shelf for well over a year. They can be had for $20.00 in anyone is still interested.

No Laurence, they will not. They are actually made for the newer Shelby Wheels. They would not go on very easy on the GT-4 wheels and I didn't want to push my luck so I went with blank caps and a decal. 1st and 2nd pictures.

If anyone wants the black CS caps, $90 shipped. Never used... 3rd picture.

I also have the Berg caps for the stock wheels; great condition. $80 shipped. 4th and 5th pictures.

Well, I finally replace the tires on the rear wheels and as I expected but didn't think about at the time I dropped the SGT off at Discount Tire, they broke the blue CS center caps when then went to balance the wheels. I've watched them in the past use the spindle on the balancer to aggressively 'pop out' center caps. When they did this it busted the caps. They were apologetic and didn't charge me anything mount and balance the new tires and rebalance fronts ($70 worth of labor). I've ordered another set of caps from Moss. When they apologized I explained that the safety clip that secures the cap has to be removed before hand. They responded with shrugging shoulders.

When I was removing the clips, my tire guy was just push them out. I am like nope. remove the clip, why the heck do you think they made it that way ? Fortunately I had the opportunity to remove them myself, before the broke them.

Man, I have never had any luck with Discount Tire. Always a bad experience. I just stopped trying with them.

There's a place here in Vegas (a local chain), Bruce Scher's Goodyear, where the Manager just GETS IT. Super nice.

We had just moved here, and my wife ran into a tire problem near their Warm Springs Rd. shop (coincidentally, after buying 4 new tires from Discount Tire), she saw their sign, and pulled right into their lot. He sent 2 guys out to pull the car in, fix the tire, and check the other three, no charge.

I made a point to visit there afterwards, to thank him in person. Now he gets any work I can send him.

I had sworn off Discount Tire roughly 20yrs ago but tried the shop around the corner when we moved into the new house. I've had good luck with this perticular shop until this last ordeal. I go in with the assumption that service in any shop will be 'antiquate' at best and only get upset when it's down right moronic. They knew the screwed up. I figure that it always someones turn to have a bad day. That day it was either mine or the guy doing the work. Ii have new caps on order and will have a couple extras to boot for less cash then what Discount was going to charge me.
