Grabber
What year is the current Shelby (body style) suppose to change and when does Shelby contract expires with Ford? 2014 is the 50th and the body will change that year. The 2013 GT500 is alive........but not sure what will happen in 2014. Could be the return of the SVT Cobra.
Son of GT
Don't expect a Cobra badged Mustang in 2014. Mach 1 supposedly, but the Cobra badge will probably go into a dormant status for awhile. Remember, the GT500 did not come to life until 2007, a full two model years after the new body came out. pmason718
ok thanks for the replies. I want to get one today so bad but I think the smartest thing is for me to wait until 2012 this way i will be done with my truck and not have to trade it in, but we will see. Maybe 2013 will have heated and cooled seats.

I couldn't agree more. I had five '65 and '66 GTOs back in the early '70s and I've had to choke it back every time I see the new ones. And I don't have any problem with dropping an LS motor in a $hitbox economy car - that's the essence of hot rodding. But calling it a GTO was going way too far. But, GM has a long history of taking a fabled marque and hanging its name on a POS - look at the recent Lemans, Impala, Malibu, etc, etc.

Well, I heard from a Reliable Source, that the next rebodied Mustang will be a smaller, lighter and it will look like a modern Probe, AND it will be Front Wheel Drive. An All Wheel Drive will be optional 2 Years later. The LX Base Engine will be a 1.3 4Cyl. Optional Engines will be the 2.0 Eco Boost 4Cyl, The Base GT Engine will be a 2.7 V6, with a 3.0 Eco Boost V6 in an SVT model. A V8 wont even fit in the Engine Bay. Ford will lead the way, AGAIN, in Fuel Economy and Style with the Base Model getting 56 to 62 MPG.

DubbsFaris
Yeah, Ford developed the coyote platform so they could go and discontinue it in 2 years...that makes perfect sense. NOT! I can see them phasing out the 5.4, because it has had a 6 or 7 year run when it is all said and done, but not the 5.0. They dont even break even until after the second year of sales in development of new vehicles. Bikeboy, Im not calling you out or anything, but Son of GT gets information from a particular source that is, well, lets just say in the know of EVERY manufacturer. I will just say that I dont remember a single bit of information he has posted as not being accurate. I have Ford sources, and I am getting the same kind of information, so I dont think he is wrong. In fact, I bet we are only getting a small morsel of what he ACTUALLY knows. While 2014 is two or three years out for car release, when we were all in Terlingua in 2008, the BOSS and the coyote 5.0 were already well into development, and while I didnt get any specifics, I was able to find out some things. In fact, I cant help but think our conversations maybe helped reinforce the idea that the base Mustang GT needed to be what it is now. We discussed at LENGTH the fact that the mustang needed to set the bar higher, and aim for specifically cars like the M3(That was in fact the example used then), and that was the way it would regain the respect of top of its class, and still be affordable for the average Joe. Either the Ford guys we had there truly did listen, or we were already on the exact same page. Either way, this a super WIN for all of us Shelby owners, because if the respect level and performance of base GTs go up, so then does ours having a Shelby model of that car. The public doesnt get information until Ford is ready, but that doesnt mean the strategy isnt already in motion. Primarily, this is done so no other manufacturer can steal ideas, but also so they dont have to retract features or specs if something has to be changed. But, this is why our site is so valuable. The information we get from certain sources gets out enough to know what general direction we are headed in and what we can expect from our car's future. Its up to you to figure out which of the posters here are credible, and which ones are talking nonsense, but thats like any thread here, and perhaps we all end up on one side or the other from time to time. Whatever it ends up being, I am so excited for our near future in vehicle design I can hardly stand it. There are so many exciting models coming our way, I cant help but be proud of what Ford is doing and what a great base it provides Shelby to do something even more exciting! This last weekend, I spent my first time on the track in my GT350, and there wasnt a car out there I didnt pass at one point or another, and we are talking M3s which I passed two in one straightaway, GT-Rs, Z06s, Porsches, and even a Lambo. (Okay, the Lambo went off track in front of me, but thats still a pass!) Who would ever have thought that a couple years ago, a turnkey track killer! I cant see not having the Coyote in the new Mustang. I see IRS and some Eco boost engine choices. It wont beatthe M3 but, anialate it! 68fastback
Ford has been grooming the KING COBRA trademark for many months now ...in a holding pattern that would expire or force an announcement right around when they would have to for an early-cycle 2014 -- just sayin. pmason718
Don't expect a Cobra badged Mustang in 2014. So would you say that 2013 is the last year for the Shelby GT500. What I'm trying to figure out is when do you think Ford will (if they will) stop the production of the Shelby, year wise. I hope I'm making sense. I know the order guide for the 2012 is out now so I take it that this time next year (2011) we will know something about the 2013 Shelby which will be the last? of will 2014 be the last. I'm new to Mustangs so excuse my ignorance but what is the Mach 1. thank you, young guy
pmason718
I have stated before that I'm new to Mustangs so what I'm trying to figure out is how Mustangs are rated. For example: BMW has the 1,3,5,6 & 7 series and as the numbers go up it usually means the price goes up. I always thought that the Shelby was the top of line Mustang and KR Shelby was like the M for BMW. Can someone explain b/c I'm hearing Mach1 ,etc etc Thanks
