jcthorne
The EPA has unveiled on its web site www.fueleconomy.gov this week the new 2008 fuel economy numbers for many models and the Gas Guzzler tax table to be applied. From the data presented it appears the GGT for the GT-500 is going up from $1300 to $2100 as the combined City/Highway milage number has dropped from 18 to 16, a drop of 2 mpg and a corresponding rise of 2 lines on the tax table. You cannot simply plug the combined milage number into the table as the formula and our government are far too clevor for that. But the net drop of 2 mpg for the 2008 model year will yield a corresponding increase in GGT. So, unless Ford intends to lower the MSRP by the same $800 (not very likley folks) the car just went up in price for next model year. Dealing with our government just gets better every day. JRGT500
The gas guzz tax in Canada is $3000 found out about 3 weeks ago when order went in for my 08 JJ It must have gone up for 2008's, because it shows the GT500 as $1000 for 2007 and it only went into effect in late March with the new federal budget. Were you charged a $1200 gus guzzler tax on a car that was delivered March 30th? Mine was delivered May 25 with zero gas tax. JR
