2010 Exhaust - too quiet

I love my 2010 GT 500 but find the sound of the exhaust to be too quiet. Is their any modifications that can be done to the stock exhaust system or do I need to go after market for a more aggressive sound?

i have a 2010 500 ,i change mine a few times, first i put magnaflow cat backs, car got quieter, put back stock and ford racing shorty headers, not much more sound , then put on corsa sport now a little more sound but the big difference is when i put on lethal performance mid pipe now the car sounds like a shelby, only agressive when starting and when you jump on the car , love it

All you need to do is get rid of stock cats. Use an off-road X or H pipe, preferably use Hi-Flow Cats. Magnaflow or Lethal X-Pipe is the way to go. The stock '10 mufflers are rather free flowing with the changes Ford made to them and sound really good when you ditch the stock cats. Best to decide what you want to do regarding the cats before you start spending money on mufflers, and decide you don't like what you just bought. I've seen way too many guys spend money on 3-4 muffler changes and never be happy with the sound. If you insist on changing mufflers first, I suggest buying used sets until you find the sound you want. Always mufflers for sale in classified section or try market on the www.svtperformance.com site. Good luck in your quest.

I watched this site as several members changed there mufflers numerous times but found that the kr muffler was the most popular so I put them on what difference in sound with no highway drone . Try them you won`t be disappointed .OMO

I went on the Lethal Perfromance website and saw that they have both a catted and uncatted x-pipe, Are you suggesting the uncatted version?

I didn't like the stock 2010 sound either, it was too quiet. Researched and decided on a quick, great bang for the buck mod. M5320-S (KR) mufflers. Amazing sound but not too loud if you keep your foot out of it (great for my neighborhood) but lets the full sound come out when you hit it, no drone and just enough pop on decel. Took me 45 minutes to swap out the stock and put in the new ones. No cutting, just unbolt the pipe clamps and muffler hangers and install the same way in reverse order.

+1 for the KR's. Best sound with no drone.

no you need the cats, lethal uses magnaflow high flow cats with ther pipe,i tried to order magnaflow but on back order forever, not enough orders for them to produce pipe, but i am very satisfied with there pipe the sound with the corsa sport is great , you dont need need the cats but a non catted mid pipe is really not for street unless u want to wear ear plug just imo, no drone at all , when driving on highway in 6th car just as quiet as almost stock, down shift to 3-4 to blow away the compitition the car has a great sound, iam having trouble keeping out of those gears love the sound that much

Get the Catted version for street driving. You will get ZERO DRONE with your stock mufflers, but will greatly improve the sound. As you see you will get a different opinion on mufflers from everyone. KR's, Corsas, etc. You don't need those on the '10, just use hi-flow cats. But that is just my opinion also. I have an '09 and am using Magnaflow Hi-flow catted X with stock '10 mufflers. Sounds great, get a lot of compliments. You can find the Lethal pipe used sometimes if you look around. I got my Magnaflow X used for $250 and the '10 mufflers for free!!! Can't beat that... :happy feet: Good luck!

Based on all the feedback from everyone above, I think I will go with the Lethal Performance catted high flow x-pipe for now. I want more sound but don't want the drone of an off-road pipe. I had toff-roads with my '08 Roush and while the sound on exceleration was awesome, the drone while cruising was a killer. Does anyone know if Lethal Performance offers a discount to Team Shelby members?

don't think there are any discounts for members , but compared to magnaflow which where $900 the lethal pipe at $399 was a great deal its well worth it

To GT 500 Rolls,

Where did you get your KR mufflers and about how much did they cost? Sounds like a good possible option.

I have the stock exhaust with a custom tune and IMO it sounds awesome! People always ask me what kind of exhaust I have. The tune made the exhaust much louder especially at WOT and a nice gurgle on downshifts.

Yes but don't you have a 2011 with the H pipe? I think the 2010 is different set up. I had a 08 KR and it sounds very much like my 2011 Gt500 exhaust. I like the look of the 4" pipes out the back.

It's going to come down to personal preference... I had the Corsa Extremes on my 2010 and love them... they have a sound clip @ http://www.corsaperf.com/product_display.aspx?product=4

NO drone at all...

tpenziner,

The clip you attached sounds great! It indicates it is the axel back muffler only which is what I am looking for to save some money (not the entire exhaust system). Did you have just the axel back mufflers and if so, where did you get them. Thanks.

Yes, I had only the Extreme mufflers "#14314" nothing else. They sounded awesome! As of a matter of fact, I just got out underneath my 2011 and put on another Corsa system, that's how much I like the sound!

Absolutely No-Drone on the new Roush systems.............

And they just had a 10% off discount on their exhaust....

But they DO have free shipping through March 31st so you can save a few bucks if you want one from Roush. Frpom my Roush newsletter:

"Get FREE SHIPPING on retail orders of $250 or more made through the ROUSH web store from now through March 31st."

There is no drone on the 2010 versions because they put a piece in the midpipe that looks to be a very small resonator to kill the drone.

I bought one too, just haven't started the car with it on....YET.

Very close though,

Phill
