1 Alibi 2
After hearing a rumor over the weekend, I contacted Ford Sales/Marketing, sent them this: . .@ a Toys for Tots in Brick, N.J. with a Mustang club, www.tri-statestallions.com, this past weekend. There were 3 of us with GT500'S, an 09, a 10, & my 2011. The comment was made that you can no longer order a 2011 Shelby GT500..& all the 2011 GT500 cars are built ? Ford has already started to tool up for the 2012 model production. He didn't say where he heard or read it. Was he correct, is production finished for the 2011 Shelby GT500 ? If someone I knew wanted to order one, his local Ford dealer couldn't take an order ? I seem to remember the 2010 production going into the following year.....Thanks for your time............ . ..............They sent me the below answer. . .Dear Donald, Thank you for contacting Ford Motor Company on 11/22/2010 09:23:49 AM. Burning Blue Star IV
Production on the 2011 MY runs til 1/14/11 according to Grabber in the above sticky post. They're still being built, It just might be too late to place a special order at this point - pretty much the same as last year.
VegasMichael
Amazing. Still in calendar year Nov. 2010 and you can't order a 2011. Reminds me of being in September and getting the January edition of a magazine subscription. I long for simpler times. Sometimes I wish I had been born in an earlier decade. 1920s or something. Sigh....

Called SVT, wanted to get paperwork for my 2011, as far as build numbers by color & options. He said that while Ford isn't taking any more orders fo GT 500's, they still have to finish building the orders they have. He suggested I wait till the end of Feb. 11, & see if they have all the data..

Burning Blue Star IV
I thought the 2011 Mustang run was over in December or early January. You are correct about that. if anyone needs proof, look on Cars.com, Edmonds.com, Ebay or Ford dealership sites - there are cars that were built as recent as 11-12-10 being listed for sale now. They are still not through with the 2011MY. As Grabbers info states in the sticky above - it's scheduled to run til 1/14/11.
Whammer
They are still building MUSTANGS but my understanding was they have completed the production run of the planned 5500 GT500's and did so a few months ago. And while they are still building mustangs they are NOT taking any more orders for the 2011's. Order banks for 2012 opened Nov. 8th. Sorry guys you can't order 2011's. Guys, communication...? Is it possible that while you can't order the '11 GT500 (Whammer), the computer is just full up and building to the end of the model year (Burning Blue). I'm just trying to find the happy medium so the thread doesn't get out of control.

Is it possible that while you can't order the '11 GT500 (Whammer), the computer is just full up and building to the end of the model year (Burning Blue). I'm just trying to find the happy medium so the thread doesn't get out of control. I had heard that all 5500 GT500's had already been built, but I guess it doesn't matter because you can't ORDER a 2011 Mustang now. The order banks would've closed several weeks ago. There has also been a big production problem throughout the entire 2011 model run and this has resulted in very low build numbers for the entire mustang lineup. Dealers in Canada have had almost zero allocation allotted to them because of production problems. So folks can argue all that want with me, I never said that the cars were not being built, obviously there are cars working through the system. All I said was you cannot ORDER a 2011 and I thought the GT500's had already reached their 5500 production run limit.

You've repeatedly claimed that "all GT500s are built" and ignored any direct evidence that contradicted your claim, so don't try and weasel out now. ...and if they build exactly 5,500 2011 GT500s I'll be very surprised. 2011 GT500 finished their build run a few months ago. 5500 and like I posted....they completed that run a few months ago. I'm not sure if they gave you a VIN yet? If so, have that ready - along with the dealership code that should be on the vehicle order confirmation paper they gave you. Sometimes just going with an "on lot" car is the best way to go - especially if you can get essentially the same deal as far as price. Good luck with it...I hope you are able to get one or the other. Madlock
GT500's don't have "production run limits". They are built under "sell as many as we can" limits. There is/was no "5500 limit". Should have used a lifeline. For 2011, Ford went public with a stated intention to limit the production run to 5,500 units. I believe it was Mark Fields who said at the Chicago Auto Show when, at the time, some 3,300 had been built that 2011 MY would be a "limited" run of 5,500. It was a statement Ford issued almost immediately thereafter in press release form and pushed to dealers for showroom posting. (Of course, of the 3,300 built at that time - some 2,500 were probably still sitting showrooms). You can find myriad references to the quote: http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=ford+2011+gt500+3300+5500 Or you can go straight to the proverbial horse's mouth - page 18 of the August 2010 Ford Magazine. Whether or not this actually meant anything at the time, (i.e. whether Ford originally predicted 4,000 units, saw demand for 6,000, and decided to cap it at 5,500), it was one of the first times Ford went "on record" with an actual number. It's also not known whether or not Ford will include production vehicles made for press junkets, auto shows, and other promotional use will be included in the official tally. There are about 50 of all types. Ford also doesn't distinguish between units made for North America (U.S. and Canada) and those made for export - but it wouldn't behoove Ford to fudge the number over something so trivial - although nearly 20% of convertibles were exported to Canada. All-in-all, I'd expect 5,500 to be the number sold through dealers as new vehicles through the traditional new car MSO to Title process - with a handful more that may exist, but were never sold new. Ford had imposed an ordering hold at the beginning of November. It's important to remember that a dealer placing a GT500 order for a customer and the vehicle actually being built are two VERY different things - and while the latter is dependent upon the former, the former in no way guarantees the latter. Individual dealers receive individual allocations at the beginning of the model year. Additional allocation can also be doled-out as rewards for certain dealers. To date, about 5,100 have been invoiced (about 4,100 coupes and about 900 convertibles) through AAI leaving precious few left to be built from the plethora of bona fide orders Ford has received. It's also important to remember that many dealers sandbag their allocation and wait for a time when other dealers may have sold-through their own. With some 3,000 individual retail outlets, not including those built for export to Canada, Europe, Mexico and other world markets, 400 units is nothing left to build. It's a day's output on some high-volume lines. Averaging about 75 units' production per week, it would be reasonable to expect manufacturing of 2011's to end mid-January given shortened holiday work schedules that have already affected November throughput. Given that orders can take between 5 and 12 weeks from VOC to dealer, it would be wholly consistent with the schedule that ordering for 2011 has effectively ended - whether or not Ford has made the formal declaration or not. It's important to remember that units are damaged and written-off during manufacture, dealers lose their franchises, and any one of a dozen OTHER reasons can cause last minute production change. As such, it wouldn't be atypical if Ford has imposed a "hold" on ordering - which may, in reality mark the end of actual ordering - without yet officially declaring it over and done, which also allows dealers to continue selling their existing stock and claim 2011's continue to be the current production model year without actually lying (not that such distinctions are always relevant).
