Will hey be offering something similar for the 2012 GT500?

I liken this key to the little plastic keychain the grocery store chains give you for a discount in 'their' store....... the cashier asks if you have the Safeway savers card, and if you don't they swipe one they have laying there for you anyway? Just give the discounts ALL the time throughout the store without the card...evidentally your gonna get it when you approach the checkout anyway? :talkhand: The public loves something new and different!

Pretty gimmicky to me. Sorry.

edit- maybe Ford 'GimmicKey' is more appropriate!

Chevrolet did a similar thing with a separate second performance key for the '89-'95 ZR1 Corvettes. It inserted into a cylinder on the center console to unlock all of the engine's performance potential.

Chevy put all the Performance in the Center Console?????? Hummmmmm, that explains a lot......................... :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:

gimmicky? really?

meeting EPA restrictions and avoiding a gas guzzler tax by making it an "aftermarket" dealer installed option, that's gimmicky to you?

sounds pretty fantastic to me...

I like it, but I can't keep thinking that as soon as you insert the key, your car will send a signal back to Ford, and by the time you get done with you first 'hot lap' and e-mail will be waiting in you in-box politely telling you that Ford is glad you are an enthusiast, and they appreciate your business, but that you can now consider your warranty 'expired'.

When I used to drag race at Atco back in the late "80's", there were stories of people walking through the pits collecting VIN numbers off of the Mustangs in the staging lanes. A few days later you would get a letter from Ford telling you to consider your warranty null and void.

I never saw on of these letters, and it may have been an urban myth, but from that point on we would remove our license plates and cover our VIN numbers for fear of 'the letter".

The Bugatti Veyron has the same thing. After the push button start, there's a small key that you insert and turn to lower the car, change the tune and spoiler angles. So while it's a very cool idea, sadly it's not an original Ford concept.
