bpmurr
To me this is pretty stupid. Just have a button for it on the car. Having to carry another key around for "Track Mode" is a waste.

Agreed. I can see it know. Threat title: I lost my red key, what do I do???
springer
Interesting concept. I can see the "dual dash buttons" somewhere in the future.
2thDoc
I'm pretty sure I'd throw the black key in the drawer and only the red one would be on my keychain.

Having to carry another key around for "Track Mode" is a waste. What if a Camaro pulls up next to you at a red light? Do you have to hurry and shut the car off, put in the red key and fire it up again before the light turns green? Actually.... you could probably still beat it with the black key! ram_g
I'm pretty sure I'd throw the black key in the drawer and only the red one would be on my keychain. According to the media reports they don't sell you the car with the red key; instead you need to buy it seperately from the dealer and have the ECM flashed at the time you buy the red key. That tells me there's probably a warranty type caveat associated with use of the red key.... May also be why there isn't simply a button on the dash. Rag Top Day
Sounds like it is a "For off road only" upgrade as it most likely is not an emmission approved upgrade. Thus not a switch on the dash type of program. Will be interesting to see what happens though.
Colleton
I'm pretty sure I'd throw the black key in the drawer and only the red one would be on my keychain. Same here. Along the same lines, I had my 2008 VW GTI tuned by Audi Precision Racing. I know, it isn't a Mustang, but bear with me... Three different tunes are loaded into the ECU (stock, 91 octane performance and 100 octane performance), and you get various features such as valet mode (limits RPM and speed), anti-theft lock-out, throttle body alignment and the ability to clear codes. Everything is controlled by manipulating the cruise control switches, no hand held programmer required. It's a very slick setup, but you do need to stop and restart the car to change tunes. Also, any "TRACK" use could void warranty anyway you look at it...

Son of GT
From Grabber's link to Ford Media... TracKey, available for 2012 Mustang Boss 302 owners through Ford dealers, adds TracMode powertrain control software to the car for track use, providing full race calibration and two-stage launch control in addition to stock calibration, without compromising factory warranty. Cdvision
What if a Camaro pulls up next to you at a red light? Do you have to hurry and shut the car off, put in the red key and fire it up again before the light turns green? Actually.... you could probably still beat it with the black key! With 444 HP on tap with the black key I don't see that being much of an issue and like you said you'll probably still win. LOL It's pretty cool technology. But Ford needs to revamp the press release as it seems many people out there are having a tough time grasping what the red key actually offers over the standard black key. 2009droptopshelby
like the Prius' Sport vs Econo mode button My Nav system has a USLESS feature called "Valet" SVT should have enabled this to de-tune the engine. Instead, the valet does not have to access the CD's or DVD. BRILLIANT! Install the valet button in center arm rest. Oh, it doesn't lock.
