Interesting Concept - Replacement Transmission

Problem is, it's not Ford who came up with the idea - it was Chevrolet!

We limped our 15,000-mile Camaro to Santa Monica Chevrolet early that April morning.

"I don't care how hard you drive; this tranny should be able to take it. That's what the Camaro SS is made for. This just should not happen," proclaimed our Chevrolet service advisor, having witnessed the defeated condition of our new Camaro's transmission. We left our 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS with him. Not 30 minutes passed before he called with an update. "GM doesn't want us touching your tranny. They're sending out a replacement under warranty. I will call you in a few days when parts arrive."

Yeah I know, it took 'em 22 days to fix the Camaro. So far mine has taken over two months and, If anything, is worse than before I took it in. Lawdude is not happy with Ford.

Before I brought mine in for repair, at least I could get it into second with some effort. After repair, I can't get her into second no matter what effort I apply. After a two month wait, I'm ready for a tranny that works and I'm not particular what VIN is stamped on it.

GM has done that even back in the 90s with the T56. Big label that says replacement only. I wish Ford would follow this example. Just let a transmission shop with the right tools and experience handle the rebuilds. The dealers only have to fuss with the swap instead. It also shortens the down time of the car.

GM took 30 minutes to get back on their tranny. After recieving my car unfixed two months later, I've been waiting since last Friday for Ford to get back to say what they're going to do about it. I'm at the point of washing my hands of Ford and getting it fixed myself. Anyone know of a qualified TR6060 tech in south georgia/north florida?

My god ................... I was kinda hoping the car would be fixed by now. I am losing my confidence as of

now. The way this ordeal is going mine will never get fixed.

According to service manager he's just waiting on the authorization code for a new tranny. Of course my skepticism level is a little bit elevated..

I was an early casualty - pre-TSB - when the only option was to swap. Ford swapped my tranny with a new 2008, but luckily I saved my original matching numbers core. You might need to pay Ford as much as $500 to keep it, but I figure it's worth it. My original tranny with just 10k miles on it - and TSB applied, now sits in a box in my garage.

Good news - new tranny is authorized. Bad news - you guessed it; son of a gun is on backorder.

Backordered because of high demand or lack of availabilty from Tremec? There are thousands of GT500's that don't post here, if the ratios are realistic, then there could be hundreds, if not in the thousand range, on back order soon. Ford only has so many on the shelf. If it comes straight from Tremec, it would be nice to know if they made changes to prevent the new tranny from doing the same thing.

I would also like to know if Ford is really working on a fix or just BSing because of the cost this could bring them. But then the cost to reputation could be greater...

Hate to say it - after 2 tranny's, 4 clutches and flywheels - I'd like to know if there's a decent automatic option...

Flyboy, just looking at your signature block. NICE car, wish I could have been in on the 40th package. With that, would you really want to change your setup from of the 40th vin?

Could you give a synapsis of what your drive lin issues were/are? Do we, Team Shelby members, need to include '07-'09 in our '10-'11 tranny discussions? Other than the flywheel, I haven't heard alot of other issues.

oops...apologies - didn't realize where I was. Carry on...

Did they even give you an estimate? I wonder if they are gonna make me jump through these same hoops of a rebuild then replace. I don't know if I can handle not being able to drive my 4 month old girl.

No, could not get them to commit. I'm still looking for someone reasonably close who knows what they are doing who can look at it and tell me if they can fix it. I'm ready to spend my own money on it at this point.

P'tree City. Only about 3 hours away. That might work.

BTW I talked SM at dealership and told him where he could find a transmission - the Shelby assembly line.

Are you getting a loaner car on Ford's $?

:headscratch:

The new 2008 no longer had the vin's on its tranny?

My 2010 GT500 Trans became unusable in late August. At first, I could shift into 2nd with a lot of force and third with somewhat less force.

By August, I couldn't get it into either without allowing the Rsss to drop. Shifted fine at 3000 but almost impossible at 6000.

Parts were ordered in September but weren't received until early Nov.. Replacement parts have new part numbers. Work will be completed next week.

From what I've read, I don't know it this will fix the problem or not. But if you get a new trans of the same mfg and make, will that improve the problem?

Compared to four speeds of the sixties, the GT500 trans is a very bad transmission.

Quite frankly, and I'm a manual trans guy, I rather have a race automatic as opposed to this bucket of bolts.
