JT93
I'm looking to upgrade my brakes for the car for track days. I'm having a SC installed (550HP Whipple) this winter so I'm going to have more power than what I'm used to on the track. At the moment with the stock brakes and stock fluid the pedal gets really soft at the end of the run, to the point where my lap times drop off two seconds because I can't run as fast because the brakes won't hold. Would stock brakes with upgraded brake fluid (motul 600 for example) be adequate or should I just upgrade to a better brake system? I was considering upgrading the brake system to brembos, but then I'd have to change the rims to the SVT style which I would rather not have to do but I will. What would be a wiser decision? I love the stock wheels, but I conceded and bought Razors (24 offset) to be able to get Baer Shelby Extremes up front. The stock brakes are not good enough for spirited driving, so I bought Brembos. Still wasn't enough.... so I bought a set of Baer/Shelby Extremes for the fronts, and Eradispeed +2 for the rears. Jer
FordFan1
I would take the dive (like I did) and get the Brembo's, with track pads and a performance fluid and braided line should be plenty- Hawk HP plus pads would be a good start and still OK on the street (but squeal when cold) if those aren't enough install track only Hawk componds. Very affordable combo and easy to work on-
kahmann
^I agree with Kerry. You can find a cheap set of GT500 take-off Brembos pretty easily. They're a huge improvement over stock. Hawk HP+ or DTC pads are what I'd recommend for heavy track use. The best Hawk pad for mostly street with some track time is the HPS. Equally important, however, is the little stuff. High temp DOT 4 racing brake fluid (I use Motul RBF 660) and stainless steel brake lines from Goodridge will transform the pedal feel immediately. If you've run your car at the track with the OEM fluid, chances are that stuff has already boiled and needs to be flushed and replaced with the good stuff. Good luck. Good luck. amen. im runnign stock brakes for daily driven with occasional track duty right now. but i have the hawk pro racing pads(they squeek soo bad if you dont "exercise" them daily or when its getting ready to rain) and elf 650 high temp fluid. the brakes will start to get a little spongy after about 8 HARD laps at hallet but they never go really soft however this is a less then ideal set up and isnt something i recommend. im honestly surprised i haven't warped my rotors yet. i've come off the track with them smoking before. go with kahmans advice. you wont regret it! i'd have brembos extremes on my car but my cs56's wont fit them kanhman you would know this. whats the average cost of take off brembos? its either those or a set of eradispeeds all round. Average cost is $500-$800, from what I've seen. I paid $500 plus freight for a set off of an FR500 Miller Cup car and they were in nearly new shape. Shop around and you'll find some decent deals for sure.
ilmor
I wanted to keep my stock wheels, and keep costs down, so I went w/ Baer Decelerator rotors all around (OEM size drilled & slotted), Hawk HP plus pads, hi-temp brake fluid and Goodrich s/s brake lines. I did one track day and this setup performed very well. I am not supercharged, however, so I can't comment on how this would have performed while braking from whatever speeds that might have generated. Responses to "best bang for the buck" will be subjective, but this was the best bang for MY buck. The next option moving up in cost is to change over to the GT500 wheels and some GT500 takeoff brakes, along w/ some good HP pads, s/s lines and high temp fluid. I suppose that upgraded tires may also enter into this equation. It starts to get much more expensive pretty quickly.

TurboShelbyGT
I have a post on here somewhere about my car and the brakes etc., if you don't mind searching for it. I put the Whipple 550 kit on my car too and the GT500 brakes. The GT brakes are VERY heavy so we had lighter rotors made for the front and the stock rears, braking is fantastic. I also didn't want to give up my wheels so I installed a set of H&R wheel spacers, the car looks better, handles better and brakes better. I couldn't be happier. NO issues with the spacers at all, track days won't be a problem.
QUIKSVT
Here's a guy that is selling a bunch of GT500 takeoff parts, including brembo fronts. Just found this as I was cruising through craigslist..... http://phoenix.craigslist.org/evl/pts/2029072091.html
ARMORINE
looks like i'll probably be selling my generation 1 cs56's as they wont fit the gt500 brakes. luckily my generation 2's will. im going to wait to buy brakes unless i find a deal thats too good to pass up. after talking to alot of people with the gt500 brakes i just cant justify staying with my factory brakes even in there upgraded condition. especially since im going to a smaller diameter tire for the front of my car.
