Grabber
I pulled the Ford Spec for the 2010 GT500 and the Spec for the 2011 GT500. The 2010 GT500 uses 6.5 qts including the filter. The 2011 GT500 uses 7.4 qts including the filter. I think that most of the owners that had the 2007 - 2010 GT500 did not re-read the 2011 manual when they upgraded to a newer model year. There seems to be a clear difference and I suspect it is because of the spray bore set up in the car. I'm afraid that many 2011 owners are running their cars almost a quart low on oil. henrycp
You made me nervous so I just went and checked the oil level. The car has been sitting since last Saturday (i.e. 8 days). The oil level reads full, only 6.5 qts put in.
henrycp
The Mustang Owners manuals says: for the 3.7L - 6.0 qts for the 5.0L - 8.0 qts The GT500 Supplement says 6.5 qts, including filter
Grabber
The Mustang Owners manuals says: for the 3.7L - 6.0 qts for the 5.0L - 8.0 qts The GT500 Supplement says 6.5 qts, including filter If a Tech at a Ford dealership pulls up the specs for a 2011 GT500 off the Ford OASIS he will get the information that I posted. It's direct from the Ford Technical system. I find it very odd that the 2 documents differ by almost a quart. (owners manual verses 2011 spec's) As you can see the 2010 GT500 takes 6.5 qts and the 2011 GT500 takes 7.4 qts. Go to any ford dealership and they will pull this information up off there computer system for you.

Grabber
The 2011 motor has different technology as we all know. I investigated this specification to see if the oil fill level is different in the 2011 GT500 to confirm the capacity. I'm just reporting out what I have found. I wonder if the spray bore system on this motor has a different oil pump or oil pan?
Grabber
It looks like it has been proven that it is 6.5 quarts by checking the level after doing an oil change. Many Ford Dealers that service these cars around the United states are pulling up the ford Specifications off of the Ford computer system and filling the 2011 GT500's up per the new Specification. When you say "it's proven" - I need more proof. I don't have a 2011 GT500, but I'm very curious to find out if the Ford Specification or owners manual is right or wrong. Has anyone drained there brand new "Factory" oil and measured the quantity ?

Grabber What I met by proven is that two people on this post used 6.5 quarts and it came to the proper level on the dip stick, that is what you go by to check the capacity when you change your oil. I hear you, but something is not adding up here. Why would Ford post the wrong Spec's on the Ford Tech Work Service manuals ? 7.4 qts is a very odd typ-o !! ram_g
Interesting find. I just changed my oil myself yesterday; could've measured what came out had I seen this thread. Put 6.5 qts in per the OM - didn't even bother to check the level on the dipstick. Just went and did that now and the level is about 1/2 way up the hash marks - definitely a bit low, but not 0.9 qts low?
gr8snkbite
5.4 is a 5.4.....now if the redesign of the 2011 block warrants the full capacity of oil the manual states 7.4), then why include the supplement which shows 6.5 like every year before it? when they added 7qts to mine during oil change, i checked at the dealer before leaving, and it was over the full mark....got home, drained 1/2qt and it came down to the full mark....oil pan and pump are the same... ram_g
Studying both the documents - I honestly won't be surprised if there are some typos here. See for example engine weight - listed as 634 lb for both - where you would expect the 2011 to weigh less per everything else we've read?? So IMHO the jury is still out as to which is accurate - 7.4 as listed here or 6.5 as listed everywhere else...
Rag Top Day
Ford has no oasis/ssm's for this that I can find. I ran a 2011 Shelby GT500 vin and no publication update, PDI update/info or anything under oil system concerns came up. Will check into it this week and see what I can find out. BDrool
It looks like it has been proven that it is 6.5 quarts by checking the level after doing an oil change. I remember from 1990, my GT had the wrong dipstick in it. I t was from a different year an was .5 qt. low. The word from Ford was .5 qt. low wouldn't hurt the motor. I had to mark it with the proper level because I didn't trust them. I guess what I'm saying is, if the dipstick is from the previous years, i.e. the iron block, it could concievably be wrong. It is NOW that the '11+ owners find out for sure before your 18 bigones motor bites the dust. It's even more important now than before with these close tolerance motors. BDrool
BTW, I believe the 5.0 Stang uses 8.0 quarts and it is the same spray bore tech...

Supplemental says 6.5 Qts. Dealership pulled this manual and put in 7 qts. My dipstick reads a little above the hashmarks with 7 qts but still below the dot that would make it overfull. Dealer said if he drained a half quart from it it would be within the hashmarks still but on the "low" side. I'm thinking 6.75 qts would be the perfect number. MattR
I checked the oil in my 2011 when I got it home, it was on full. 600 miles later it was still on full. Drained it and added 6.5 qt and its on full again.
Grabber11GT
Getting my oil changed today from dealer....they've drained the oil all out and do not have the oil in stock. So now....don't get my car back!!! They will rush order the oil for tomorrow. Made the appointment a week ago. Guess I shouldn't assume that people know what they are doing. When I made the appointment I first asked if they had the correct oil and that they had the performance oil filter. Those that have had the oil changed in their 2011, how is your oil guage reading? How much oil was put in? Mine is still within the "Normal" range, but within the "Normal" range seems to be 3/4 of the way to the High side. Don't recall seeing it like that before the oil change...seemed to be right in the middle between Low and High.
