tony356
Morning all, Next month my daughter (11) and I will fly out to Shelby to pick up the 350 and since it is now fall we have had to change our northern cross country route to a southern one. We are gonna hit the Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon but I am asking if there is something that is a must see along I-40 heading east. I am taking her to the Biltmore in Asheville then heading North to Fallingwater by Frank Lloyd Wright near Pittsburgh. She love nature and is thinking about architecture as a carreer. Planning on taking a week to cover the 2900 miles home. Thanks for your suggestions.

Losch09Shelby
I recommend stopping in Memphis for some BBQ (either The Rendezvous or Corky's), downtown sightseeing, and maybe Graceland. Continuing east, Nashville has some great architecture. As you get to East TN/West NC, the scenary is amazing with tons of places to take-in the beautiful Appalachin MNTs. If you have time for a short detour, I recommend going to Deals Gap, NC to run The Tail of the Dragon- 318 curves in 11 miles! (Directions from Nashville, TN / Knoxville, TN). The Biltmore will blow you away. I went with my wife last year and we can't wait to go back. Hope this helps!

If you take I40 you'll go through Flagstaff and Albuquerque, etc. But if you're looking to see some Wright stuff, how about making it a two-Frank Lloyd Wright stop? Go down to Phoenix for a couple of days and see Taliesin West. I was going to go again when I went to the auction last January but it rained cats and dogs every day. Last time I saw it was probably 40 years ago and yes, they did camp in tents. Oh yeah, Rte 66. Go through Seligman and eat at Delgadillo's Snow Cap Inn. Have done the dragon twice with a 356 and a 911 but I think we can make this small detour again. It really is fantastic.

kryptonite
Get you a GoPro HD Camera and drive through the Blue Ridge Parkway. Minor detour off I-40 near Asheville, NC.
twobjshelbys
snow cap looks like fun. thanks for the input. i put it on the list of stops. If you decide to stay generally on 40 (although I still recommend Taliesin) then the section of 66 from Kingman to Seligman is a nice side drive. Get off the freeway and drive through Winslow. Take it easy. There is a Flat Bed Ford. (The song, by the way, was written by Jackson Browne and he performs it is his concerts too.)

Minor detour off I-40 near Asheville, NC. parkway is on the list weather permitting. i have the 800 # already in my phone which has daily weather update. about the camera, might be too tempting for me - esp with my daughter in the car. Losch09Shelby
Corky's looks like a better fit for parking. Thanks for the tip. Somewhat true. There's a good parking garage just 2 blocks from The Rendezvous ("Parking Can be Fun" at Union Ave and S. Center Ln). I'm pretty sure it's only $2 to park and it's in the heart of downtown near The Peabody and Autozone Park. The dry ribs at The Rendezvous are the best, but you won't go wrong with Corky's either. Enjoy!

The oil boom money made for some really interesting building.

0201212
Man looks like everyone has given up all the good spots!!! I would say that prior to leaving Las Vegas you need to hit In-N-Out that way you start your drive on full belly... Hope you enjoy the drive, no better way to spend time with our children then on a long drive....
