melissa809
Hey guys.....so I bring my car to one of those self serve car wash places at night just to hose out leaves that settled in the door are (when you open the door). So anyways, it's late...I'm tired and i just poke the wand in there and do it half ass because it starts to rain. Okay, today I go back and check the car and notice these foam inserts in that area...AND, that I kind of punctured a hole in one of them with the wand. Okay, so I'm upset and start fiddling around with these things and eventually pull them out and sure enough there is a small collection of leaves in there from when I left my car outside. Okay, my question...if anyone has the answers...lol....don't these foam inserts promote the collection of dirt/leaves etc. which eventuallly leads to rust? Am I better off leaving these things out. I'm thinking they prevent excess heat from the engine bay from entering the cabin??? My GT doesn't have them. Also, I want to replace them being that I damaged them. Does anyone know the real name for this part? Thanks melissa

FiaCobra
Mel, I have no idea of what you're talking about. Perhaps being your car is a vert, it differs from mine in that area. Yeah, pics would help.

melissa809
Guys....my camera isn't working right now. when you open the door...look at the hinge. Inside that area, where you would grease your hinges...is a black foam insert. It's not glued in or fastened because I was able to pull them completely out. When I wash my car, I like to hose out any area where dirt and leaves may accumulate. This area inside where the door hinges attach to the body is a hotspot for dirt and leaf build-up. melissa809
Hey guys...I found the part. It's called a quarter panel interior insulator...lol If anyone has any experience with this piece.....will I be able to install it without removing the fender? I pulled it out without removing anything, but my brother says I may need to remove the fender to get it back in?????
07-2937
Ive dealt with these and i did it while installiing a fender but I think if you take off front tire and pull the pins for the inner fender pull out the inner fender and it will give you access to that area and it just slips in there. I believe its function is to prevent alot of water and wind from entering that area of your door frame. good luck
inyadreems
If you park your car outside, get a car a cover. I have a 3 car driveway and park mine under a Custom Superweave California Car Cover. Besides the usual haze marks from covers, people are amazed when I tell them it is not garaged. chuckstang
Can those haze marks be buffed out or permanent?
Hopsgt500
They can be buffed out
inyadreems
Actually as soon as I wash the car most of them go away and if any remain, a little Megs cleaner wax does the trick.
melissa809
I do use a car cover. I have an Evolution CoverCraft and yeah, my car looks pristine. I just got lazy this past week and let her sit. On a side note, I always make sure the car is spotless before I put the cover on......hence my being "lazy".
