Okay to spice this dead horse up im going to add a bit more to it.

i have been on this forum for about a year now, crazy to think about.. and i have done 1 modification.. even though for the last year i have been researching and deciding what to do with the car and keep changing my mind and bugging people on here with questions..

my one mod?.. a shelby 6 speed shifter. and it made a huge difference. even in throttle response but that could just be in my head?..?

i have come up with more lists of things i wanted to do than i can count. watched more reviews read more threads. then i watch things like top gear and 5th gear and motor trend. why do these cars get such a bad rap? yeah.. they are heavy.. yeah they have a live rear axle? so? i personally don't want to pay to fix an IRS or add even more weight to the car either.. look how much the camaro weighs and i see no benefit from the suspension.. also look at the results griggs get with the live rear axle. i would however like shelby to come out with its own SLA front suspension.. that would be awesome.

i have driven myself crazy with my list that i finally decided that it was worth it to just purchase the SS package. but then i decided that it would be better to buy a griggs suspension and then work on power and have a better handling car..

and so my final list went like this

griggs gr40ST suspension

3.73 gears

pulley and tune

mischelin ps2 tires

exhaust and headers (american racing headers with a borla exhaust)

one piece drive shaft

dual fan heat exchanger

then i saw this car.. (http://www.agentfortyseven.com/harbinger/index.html) the harbinger..

well i fell in love.

i can say that the only reason that i am not driving one at the moment (though it would be utterly rediculous as an every day driver) is that 1, it doesnt come with an engine (which i could get over. that leaves me with many options.. i could even build my own and have a great time with it..) and more importantly 2, i would be upside down on my gt500 if i sold it.. so that left me with only one route.. trading in at the dealership.

now i have arrived at this point. i have been stuck on the 2011 gt500. the sound. the handling. the weight loss and the gorgeous engine. the new tires and wheels. the nav, the glass roof.. i could go on.. most of the mods that i wanted to do are already on this beast..

I have ordered a 2011 black, red stripes. svtpp, electronics package, car cover, glass roof.

i can not wait... i really cant. i got a chance to test drive an svtpp black with stripe delete. the boost was still off so i dont have much to say about the power. my 08 delivers more.. but thats not a fair comparison.. the sound... videos dont do it justice. it sounds like a ford gt. the steering and the shifter will take some time to get used to. also the clutch feel is nicer, but will take time to get used to, i was being a little to gentle with it not being my car and all but i didnt want to stall, so it took me a while to find that spot where it let go.. i am just so used to my 08..

the shifter is awkward.. but not horrible i suppose i might look to upgrade to a shelby shifter if i find one that fits the boot.

soo back to my post topic

what do we knoww about the 2012 gt500?

same aluminum engine

recaro racing seats

same colors minus the sterling gray?

is there anything else that is known that will be different from the 2011?

I'm kinda in the same boat right now. All I know about the 2012 MY is the addition of the Recaros and possibly the Torsen diff, and if they're going to take away the Sterling Gray are they going to replace it with another color? If I did find a Sterling Gray or Ingot Silver PP car w/ stripes at or near invoice then I might just jump on it. Otherwise I'm waiting for the 2012.

The Z28 is expected in 2012. Ford must be pretty confident if they aren't making power and traction improvements...

This has me scratching my head a little bit but I suppose Ford will wait and see exactly what the Z28 brings to the table before they counterattack. I'm thinking they feel that the Boss 302 Laguna Seca will be able to beat the Z28 around the track. So that just leaves 0-60 times, easy answer to that is probably a larger blower. Perhaps there will be mid year tweaking of the GT500's power?

Man, great topic but please,............ learn to spell. Your title seams like you've had a few shots (absolutely nothing wrong with this..... in fact I kinda encourage this) but jeeze, spell check, Google, phone a friend, whatever ...... but please do something.

By the way, I am really interested on how Ford is going to kick the ( late too the show and PURE evil ) Z28's butt. :D

Shelbyowner858,

You mentioned Top Gear. This for the most part is an entertainment show. I watch it regularly, however, I came to the conclusion they don't really know real facts and they do twist them to confuse and make what they don't like look bad. I remember awhile back when they put a GT500 on a mobile chassis dyno and critized that it really didn't have 500hp. The measure at the wheel and not the flywheel, big difference. Then again, they use "Break Horse Power" to describe the power of super cars. This, to any body that wouldn't know any better, skews all there is to know about raw power. BHP is the measurement of the engine without any driven components such as alternators and powersteering. Makes me wonder what the BHP is on the GT500, gotta be close to 600. That is more than a great number of supercars...

Just had to say it because of TV and the entertainment value.

Love the show too, but let's not forget the one where they raced a mustang against a mustang(horse) around a small oval track. The horse wins. They kept saying it was a GT convertible...but it was really just a V6 boat anchor.

Also in that same GT500 episode they try to sell the Roush as a much better car, because it had things like LSD :banghead: Where the GT500 was rather basic....

Here's another good top gear screw-up. Confusing a Shelby GT with a GT500 vs an electric car. I don't think they like Mustangs very much.

Shelby vs electric car

And they don't (at least Clarkson) like Americans much either. It's an inferiority complex...

Yeah, Yeah, and Yeah. However, Clarkson does have a FordGT and Richard owns an early model GT500 (I think) or atleast some Mustang, but they do protray themselves as not fond of the American car, at least muscle cars.

I remembered that episode too, had to look it up. He was testing a GT500 and owns a GT390

That's the one. They just prove they don't know what they are talking about. I'd like to them put their prized "Brake Horse Power" cars on the same dyno, but they would only skew the facts, basically lie, to make their choices look better. No LSD on a GT500... :hysterical: Time for Top Gear to grow a set and drive a SVTPP with its 1.0 lateral g. with it's so called girder rear end. (I am being sarcastic BTW)

I just heard something interesting from the service tech guy at my local Ford dealer (I was picking up my truck after servicing). He told me that he read (in latest issue of Popular Mechanics, I think) that the '12 GT500 would be rated at 580 HP.

Now, I need to find that magazine to confirm it.

:lurk:

Hopefully this will be true. I'd like to see all the Camaro Z/28 owners shed a tear in their eyes if this is true.

+1 that's what I was thinking about. They should also test the new 5.0

I mean they tested the Challanger (well that was when they returned to America) and they tested the Camaro SS. Where's the Mustang? They like these two cars and leave out the other.

and let's not let Hammond drive the Mustang and GT500 this time, let's have Clarkson do it to show how much Ford improved.

The initial 500hp would have been hard to beat, if only Ford could figure out how to put it to the ground...

I don't think any of them have the integrity to truly comment on a "Muscle" car that can go around a track... All three of them are pro EU and anti US.

They need bigger tires and rims. The car has too much HP for the tires as it is. 580hp is great with some 315's.
