Becareful who works on your car!

Saw that on another forum. I said it there, Ill say it here:

If you throw your keys to someone like a friend and they go out and wreck the car, thats one thing.

If you take your car to a business, and have work done on it and something happens while they have custody of it, that is something else.

I dont care what Bill's story is, he has a business, he was making money doing something to that car, and he chose to take it out for a spin. (literaly)

He has no case, and NO support from me. Then he expects the customer insurance to cover his dumbass driving habits? Not a F :censored: ing chance in a trillion. My attorney would be so far up his youknowwhat that they would know how many wrinkles his mother's umbilical cord had. :angry22:

"they would know how many wrinkles his mother's umbilical cord had"............... :hysterical2: Too dang funny Warren. I gotta use that one someday.

It's a real mess that one is. Hopefully the cars owner will get compensated somehow. It's not like you can just order a new one from Ford.

I can't believe that the Guy did not have Business Insurance. I had to have $1,000,000.00 worth of Coverage to protect Me & CS when I was producing the Tribute Edition Shelby's and all I did was install Graphics & Emblems, the owners installed the Performance Mods. I can't believe the Guy hasn't come up missing yet..............................

Unbelievable.

I have to bring my car in to a local shop to have some very minor stuff done to it. The guy told me he'll probably only need the car for an hour or two. I told him "That's ok, i'll bring my lunch and wait"

There's no way I'm leaving my car unattended so someone can go for a "joyride".

I feel for the owner of the GT.

+1 I have to carry $1,000,000 liability umbrella and all I do is clean: strip, wax, mop floors, clean windows, vacuum floors, etc. No legitimate business would operate without liability insurance! He's already got a lead foot, why not fit him for cement overshoes........

Two thoughts on that one....

1) See why I never dropped off my car for the pass. airbag TSB? You know they would need to test drive it afterwards! Right.

2) No wonder they call him 'Shadowman'......maybe he thinks he can become invisible on this one?

btw- where up the 'you know what', is there a connection to the umbilical cord? :headscratch::hysterical:

I can't believe the Owner sent his Car to another State to be Tuned...........................How long does it take to do a Tune (Dyno or not). I would have to be there watching every thing going on.

I'm on the verge of buying a Ford GT and have been following this with some interest.

There aren't that many that are well versed on tuning Ford GTs.

I think Ray (the owner of that beautiful Heritage GT) is the guy that just bought the Matech racing prototype.

It is stated on the FGT forum that all of the issues have been sorted out.

By the way, the lesson learned over there is that anyone who works on your SHALL have "Garage keepers" insurance. For those with an "umbrella policy" if you have a business it may not be the right kind of coverage. Umbrellas are written around general badness, not specifics related to something you do regularly.

Crazy and pretty sad. It's pathetic how some treat others property. My mod shop won't drive any of the cars they work on unless you sign a waiver or ride along with them. They don't want the liablility.

Shadowman has been around a long time and he does a hell of a lot more than just tune! He also garners a huge amount of respect from GT owners.

I am a member of the Ford GT forum and this is the first time that I recall anything said negative about him in any way. There are two sides to evry story and insurance laws vary from state to state. I can promise you that this accident tore him up. This guy pioneered a number of mods for the GT and it is his passion. Just my 2 cents.

That may be but, it only takes ONE screw up to kill your Rep (and business).

I agree totally and I will be at the Tx Mile this weekend and I will get the truth and report back. If it is the truth, he is finished.

theseeker- I see in your sig. H20 cooled PC's. Is that to say water cooled personal computers? :headscratch:

I laughed, but then caught myself, because maybe there is such a thing...I'm such a computer knob!

If you read his report he said he was transitioning from asphalt to a section of gravel, perhaps some kind of repair that was waiting to be recoated I can tell you that my truck rear wheels will hop like crazy sometimes, and when it does it oscillates like crazy. More than once it has gotten so bad that the rear end started to drift. When I let off the accelerator and slow down to get off the "beat" of the suspension to road it is OK again. If this kind of thing happened to the FGT it could very well be the cause. My guess is that looking for the reason for loss of control has ceased.

INCREDIBLE! Is that your design?

Republic of Gamers?? Sorry man!

This one is about 2.2 years old, clocks at 5.4 when needed and it still smokes. At the time the ASUS board was the best OC'er by far.

I will probably build a new one in the next few months. I have not had time to catch up as of late, but rest assured when I do, it will smoke!

BTW, that is my design sans the MB.Thanks for the kudos.

Back in 1994 a friend of mine had a 92 Dodge Stealth Twin Turbo, AWD, AWS just like mine. The National Gathering of Stealths was happening in a week in St. Louis and we were planning on taking both our cars to this event. He lived in Milwaukee (the rectum of Wisconsin) at the time and decided that he wanted a more free flowing exhaust, so he took it to a shop to have this done. The next day they called up and said that the transfer case for the AWD had let go when they were............and I quote " taking it around the block" . When he went to pick the car up to have it repaired a gentleman from the business across the street came over and told him they were doing 4 wheel drive burnouts with the car in the parking lot and thats why the case blew. He ended up riding with me to the gathering and all week long all's I heard was him bitch'n how they %^^ up his car. The whole situation ended up in court, and by the time he was done he said he would have been better off just to repair the car and pay for it himself. A lesson I always remember, that's why I do a lot of stuff myself.

Business liability, Business Property for building and Umbrella is for your personal assests...car shop owners will have addendums....

Sucks to pay for it unless you need it.

  • 6 months later...

I have not posted here in a long time, I saw this and thought I would add a few things.

1) The CHP completed an investigation and concluded the the speed was indeed approximately 65mph.

2) Bill has stated repeatedly that he does not know for sure what happened to cause the loss of control but it was not what the owner has claimed.

3) The insurance negotiations were complicated and much has not been made public. Rest assured the owner was made more than whole by his insurance.

4) It was abundantly clear that the owner needed proof of insurance before the accident.

I had a reservation with Bill to do a long list of mods to my car before the accident. This included many thousands of dollars of no longer available equipment sitting in his shop. Admittingly, I was panicked. I flew down to discuss this with Bill and to decide if I should proceed or rent a truck and bring my stuff home. After hearing the non-published side of the story, and by story, I mean how things should get settled, I decided to proceed. Bill repeatedly assurred be that I was not obligated and could take my parts and leave.

I spent more on this project than the cost of my GT500 so this was not a light decision.

I usually do everything myself, this is my first "Tuner" experience. It was a great experience in every respect. I was consulted at every turn and made all the minute decisions. There were NO cost overruns that I did not approve in advance (contrary to the other owner's claims). The car was returned to me in better condition and of course, much higher performance potential that I could have hoped for. Bill has been doing this for 30 years and knows what he is doing, from "tuning" to fabricating parts unheard of to make the owners vision come true. I highly recommend you contact him and discuss your case if you have been on the fence.

He is persona non grata on the Ford GT forum. The mere mention of his name gets you into trouble.

And that is pretty much meaningless as the owner of that forum is close friends with the car owner and is taking that matter in his own hands, which is his right, it is his forum.

Be careful of thinking you know the whole story from what was posted on that forum.

Just sayin.

+ 1, million Love when a business owner trys to put it to the customer when they screw up and no less auto insurance. I haven't had a ticket since 1989 then one car accidents in years made my rate go thru the roof. Imagine a ford gt . Also have seen mechanics get pulled over on a road test and recieve a ticket for no insurance he loses his license up to 6months to a year in NY

Beautiful car. It's still on my list, but I love the road course too much. I wouldn't own it if I couldn't run it on the track, and unfortunately I can't rein myself in to not running wide open. The switch is either on or off. I just can't bring myself to risk having a $150k bad day, let alone a $200+K bad day. I'll have to settle for the Boss for now.
