longebow
Hey Team Shelby! I'm about to pull the trigger on a 2012 GT500, and can't decide if I should go for the Glass Roof option. Would appreciate any/all feedback--do you love it, or is like the exercise equipment purchased on 2 Jan--looks great at first, but is then collecting dust...? I have heard/read: 1. It reduces "structural stability." 2. It gets hotter in the car under direct sun. 3. It is "less safe." Thanks. Chris

As for the items you pointed out, I don't know about the structural stability....it seems fine to me and I have not heard about any issues. Getting hotter in the direct sun.....I don't think so. I bought my car in Arizona in the summer and with the shade pulled closed, you don't even feel the heat...just like a regular roof. I searched before I bought the car about any safety concerns and found none. I would say go to a dealer and drive a car with the glass roof option. You won't be disappointed. The frame around is virtually the same and glass is much stronger than a thin piece of roofing. It is saftey glass like your windshield so if you crash it will fracture but not rip apart. I have it and have not had any heat issues. It is the best part of the car (except the engine).
BigDan
I searched before I bought the car about any safety concerns and found none. What about a T-rex. I searched for ever but couldn't find the money shot where the t-rex actually breaks through and goes for the screaming kids with the Ford glass roof option. I would of definitely gotten if it was $500 instead of $2k

10random
I loved the view, but hated the concert hall effect. Everything seemed to be louder and echo more. I could just see a rattle developing and sending me off the deep end. I am fan of sunroofs etc, but the solid glass panel, just didn't do it for me. Have you ever gotten a rattle from a windshield? I have not. This roof is the same safety glass as the windshield.

Umm not referring to the glass itself.....the concert hall effect just amplifies things like Interior rattles.
BDrool
I believe the Glass roof adds weight to the top of the car. Anybody want to post their curb weights with and without for a comparison? I would but mine is a 2010. Also, if a vert can't be raced, would the glass top to be able to? Whammer
I believe the Glass roof adds weight to the top of the car. Anybody want to post their curb weights with and without for a comparison? I would but mine is a 2010. Also, if a vert can't be raced, would the glass top to be able to? I think the glass roof adds 26lbs. to the car's weight. Here's more on the glass roof- When it comes to the Ford Mustang , Ford has figured out a way to capture just about every bit of the market as possible. From special edition models to high-performance offerings, the Mustang can be configured in just about any possible way to meet the demands of its owners. For drivers looking for more of an open-air environment without stepping up to a convertible, Ford is now offering its Glass Roof option on the 2010 Mustang coupe. Available on either the V-6 or GT coupes, the Glass Roof option will add an additional 1,995 to the MSRP and Ford says that the models are currently shipping to dealerships. The glass roof option essentially replaces the top roof panel with a solid glass panel to make a continuous glass roof from the top of the windshield back to the decklid, but it isn’t an unobstructed view. There is a section between the B-pillars that is still solid most likely for added protection in side-impact and rollover collisions (the 2010 Mustang coupe got a perfect five-star crash rating across the board from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)). The glass roof is basically an oversized sunroof that isn’t able to open, but allows more sunlight into the cabin. Ford claims that occupants in Mustang coupes equipped with the optional glass roof won’t have to worry about sunburn, though, like they would in convertibles since the glass used filters out 96 percent of the sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays, while also cutting back on cabin heat by filtering out 90 percent of heat-causing infrared rays. This level of protection will effectively act like the equivalent of applying sun screen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of almost 50, and it will also help reduce interior surfaces from fading or deteriorating. If the sun is still too much in certain conditions, the glass roof also adds a retractable mesh sun shade for less sun and more privacy. Originally launched on the 2008 Mustang, Ford says that the Glass Roof option had a 10 percent take rate going to drivers who appreciated the panoramic, open-air feeling of a convertible, but without having to pay the higher cost of a convertible model. Compared to the base prices for the convertible versions of the Mustang and Mustang GT, $25,995 and $32,995 respectively, Glass Roof Mustangs will equate to a savings of just over $3,000 in the cost alone not to mention additional savings in insurance premiums. Other beneficial factors include the elimination of dreaded wind noise and cowl shake associated with convertibles as well as performance benefits from the reduction in weight. It’s not clear how much weight the glass roof will add to the base Mustang’s 3,401-pound curb weight, but it should not be significant enough to cause a reduction in performance. On top of the enjoyment afforded to drivers of either the Mustang convertible or with the glass roof, Ford also claims that the increased exposure to sunlight helps to keep drivers alert and happy. It has been proven that Vitamin D helps increase health and reduces depression. So if the Ford Mustang doesn’t put a smile on your face already, you should switch to either a convertible or the all-new 2010 Glass Roof Mustang. Written by Jeffrey N. Whammer
Here's some more discussion about the glass roof- http://forums.themustangsource.com/f726/glass-roof-option-480910/ I didn't really care about the glass roof option but after testing driving a GT500 that had the glass roof I like it. Currently trying to work out a deal on the GT500 I test drove.

It wasn't my first choice, but the wife liked it and that was the only thing that differed from what I wanted, so I got it. And I must say I love it. It's no hotter on the inside than my black F150, in fact I think it actually stays a little cooler.

Took delivery of a 2011 GT 500, black / red stripes...+ glass roof on 3 July................the glass roof was the best decision I made. As far as the heat, according to Ford it's only 1.5 deg. difference from a steel roof. ( on my black car I'm sure I won't notice it ) With the glass roof, the interior takes on a bright airy feeling, without the wind of a convertable. As for " less safe " & " Structual stability ", there are a lot of cars running around with glass in their roof areas, not just Fords. I would suspect that if the public was in danger, the people who do the crash testing would drop a dime on the mfgs.................................1 Alibi
