He's right, its not Shelby. This a Mustang GT with a body kit. Check out the sticker on the car. No Shelby gets 25 miles to the gallon highway.

GO-SVT:

How the hell are you getting that kind of average mpg? Do you have a fuel economy tune? I am getting 15.5 - 16.5 average in mine with just over 2000 miles on the odometer. Granted, I like to mash the gas pedal from time to time, but I am honesty shocked to see you are getting better mpg than the EPA sticker!

That display shot was taken in Michigan on the way to the Woodward Dream Cruise this summer. I had driven about 400 miles on the interstate when I took that shot just before I got to Detroit. I averaged 80 MPH the entire way. I shifted into 6th gear as soon as possible and used the cruise control whenever possible. Just to add- including stop-and-go bumper-to-bumper Woodward traffic, along with some serious late night street racing up in Pontiac, it dropped down to 18.x and then went right back up to 24.5 on the drive back home.

In another topic, others said "I should buy a Prius" if I'm talking about gas mileage or droptop's "You aren't driving it 'right' comments.

I'm quite certain I drive mine much harder than most on here do. The day I ran my best ever 11.27 ET, I made 8 passes at the dragstrip. When I left the track, I was at 18.2 MPG. By the time I got home (65 miles) it was back up in the low 20's.

I do have a TVS and it seems like the car gets better mileage with the better, more efficient blower. This was the same on my '08 GT500- I got better mileage with the TVS on that car also, just not as good as the 2010. There's no downside to having a car capable of VERY low 11's that gets excellent mileage.

Trust me, I have a lot of fun with my GT500... I will say again- If you leave the car in 4th or 5th gear when above 50 MPH and aren't "playing" you are just wasting gas and mine drops way down into the teens if I leave it in those gears on longer drives. There's no reason not to upshift if you aren't doing anything other than "driving".

Oh yea, one more thing about that "sticker" MPG- It says 14-22 but also says "Expected range for highway MPG is 18-26 for most drivers" so technically I am getting LESS than some could be...

People need to understand, not "driving it right" has nothing to do with it. Go to the track, run 11s and 12s, get your low milage and look cool or what not. Hit reset and get on the freeway and you are RIGHT back into the 20s. I got 24.X when going to Grabbers event this year and same on the way home. I get 18 in and around town 40 miles a day, half in stop lights and stop signs the other half on 55 MPH country highways. Jump on I-5 to go to Seattle and back (90-100 miles round trip) and im back up in the 20s EASY. Hit reset and it will be 25 +/- a mile per gallon. But, right time right place, it romps 11's NO problem.

Those cars didn't use the GT500 platform - they were premium Mustang GT's. I'm not sure about the new kits, but some old Eleanor's were being made in Texas by a company called "Unique Performance." Potential buyers (who put a hefty down payment) eventually sued after waiting for their vehicles that weren't delivered. Long story short, Shelby pulled the chain with them, and UP filed for bankruptcy in ~2005 I think. The Feds discovered VIN issues on the cars they had as well.

I'm not sure if they were making 2005+ body kits. Cervini's offers the "C-500" kit which is the same thing.
