Dream Realized

I purchased my first Shelby yesterday. Had to drive about 2 1/2 hours to get the car I wanted ('11 GT500 Convertible), but wow the drive back home was a blast! I haven't quit smiling since I got behind the wheel for the first time yesterday. I expected a lot from this car, after all I'd been dreaming about owning a Shelby since before I was old enough to drive, and it didn't disappoint. Gonna have to get use to other's drivers' erratic behavior though... lot's of people slowing down and/or speeding up to get a closer look... not to mention the horn blowers. I doubt I quit smiling until I get a ticket...

SC is very good at home, and have the best college coach around, Steve Spurrier

With all due respect I disagree big time ! Lets take an objective look.

Best ? We can't be discussing the same Spurrier that has barely won more than he's lost at S.C. Lost 3 of the 4 bowls he's been to and has never been to the conference championship w/ Carolina or even won the East division and has a losing record in conference games since he's been coach at S.C.. If I remember correctly S.C. fades every season in the second part of the schedule, so lets not call him the "best", even this season until it's finished and if by some chance they win the East I will be looking forward to a rematch with Bama( no I'm not a Bama fan) ! You are definitely entitled to your opinion but do check the facts . I have lived in S.C. most of my life but never have been a fan of S.C. and I'm inclined to believe in the "chicken curse".

As far as the Alabama win, even a blind chicken finds a kernel of corn occasionally.

South Carolina Gamecocks (Southeastern Conference) (2005–present)

2005 South Carolina 7–5 5–3 T–2nd (East) L Independence

2006 South Carolina 8–5 3–5 5th (East) W Liberty

2007 South Carolina 6–6 3–5 T–4th (East)

2008 South Carolina 7–6 4–4 T–3rd (East) L Outback

2009 South Carolina 7–6 3–5 T–4th (East) L PapaJohns.com

2010 South Carolina 4–1 2–1 (East)

South Carolina: 39–29 20–23

Ah yes! That first ride home with the new baby... I can remember being at a red light and reading the people's lips in the car beside me saying " D-U-D-E! I-T-S A S-H-E-L-B-Y!!"

Nothing will ever compare to your first ride in YOUR first Shelby. ever. Congrats it's a beauty! :salute:

I'm an OU fan, but what happened to Alabama? How did they get beat? Overconfidence? :headscratch:

SC played well and we didn't, especially on defense. We've got nine new starters on D, and they played like the inexperienced group that they are. Hopefully we'll get things sorted out and get a rematch with SC in the SEC championship game.

Congratulations!

I'm right there with you. We may have kissed our Shelby cherries goodbye within the same week. :) I have to admit, I tossed and turned a whole lot - first between the GT and GT500 (that Coyote 5.0 is even better than most people think) - and then, after ordering my bespoke GT500 Coupe, the choice between accepting the Coupe I ordered or taking an identically-built Convertible.

About the only conclusion I've reached after my first 500 miles in my Coupe is that I now what the Convertible. Not in-place of the Coupe, mind you - I want a Convertible too, damn it. I swear. The thing's like crack. Seriously though, I think I would have enjoyed either car equally - although a Convertible is the one thing a Coupe simply can never be.

As much as I'd worked myself into a frenzy over how much tauter the Coupe body is, or how much extra weight the Convertible carries for the sake of keeping itself rigid - at the end of the day, I'm certainly not a good enough driver or run mine as close to the ragged edge for the difference to approach anything that comes close to mattering.

And to be honest, I also often wonder how much "better" a GT500 is versus a GT with some basic tuning by the time you add-in the creature comforts the GT500 surreptitiously omits. For me, I'm really screwed now. You see, I didn't wind-up trading my Flex, as I kept it for my winter car - and now I'm trying to figure out ways to work a 2012 GT Convertible into my stable - alongside the Transit Connect I own for my business and my wife's MKS.

What/How the hell am I supposed to rationalize a fourth car for me (and fifth overall)? :)
