2011 GT500 SVTPP - strange sound

Hello all. I have been lurking for a while, great forum here with lots of helpful people. I took delivery of my black on black 2011 Shelby with the SVTPP on 9/22, it has been lots of fun. It will be a daily driver up here in Washington State and I am looking forward to many years with her. Last weekend I noticed a strange sound upon acceleration above 2K RPM or so. The attached wav file is in 5th gear and you can hear a clicking/vibration sound when I accelerate, seem to happen in every gear but it is louder in 5th. I took it to the dealership and the mechanic said that some linkage sound is a know issue on these cars but when I played the recording for him he said lets test drive it. I recreated the sound for him which by the way seems to be minimized when you hold on to the stick. The mechanic found a loose bolt underneath that seemed to be left over from the assemble process and removed it, sound was still there. Then he removed the shifter, still no luck. They called Ford and they said they have not received any complaints about this issue and requested them to replace the entire lower shifter assembly which should be in this week. Then the dealership tells me that maybe this is just normal and that they don't have another Shelby to compare it to! I don't recall this sound occurring when I first got the car and have not heard it on the dozens on You Tube Videos that I have seen. Anyone else ever heard something like this before?

When I first got my 2010 GT500, I had a clicking sound when I'd shift to 2nd. It wasn't all the time but often enough to concern me.

I found out it was ME, not the car. When I'd shift to 2nd I found myself pulling/holding back on the shift knob. If I let go, the clicking would go away. I'm wondering if a misadjusted shifter would give you the same noise? I'm thinking if the shifter detent is "holding back" on the shifter, it would be as if you were holding back on the shifter. You even say if you hold it, it goes away.

My bet is on a shifter problem, not a tranny problem.

Yeah, I'm hoping it's not a tranny issue. BTW, the sound doesn't completely go away when I hold the stick, it just gets quieter

Sounds like "gear rollover" transmitting from the shifter (there was/is a TSB for that condition for the 2007/2009 cars). Or it could be just a harmonic vibration from the shifter itself. You could take it in and ask them (dealer) to pull the boot off to check for any loose fasteners in the shifter mechanism.

Good luck!

I second the aforementioned diagnosis.

They have already pulled the boot off and checked the shifter mechanism, nothing found. Hopefully replacing the lower shifter assembly will do the trick, I will report back here to let you all know how it goes. I can tell you one thing, they better not say that this is a normal thing to me again.. Thanks for all of the replies!!

So they replaced the entire lower shifter assembly and the sound actually seems to be louder. And BTW it does completely go away if I put a little pressure on the stick. So if it is in say first, third or fifth and I press up or in second, fourth or sixth and press down (away from neutral) sound gone. In the attached sound file I'm in fifth and accelerate twice. The senior master tech at the dealership in going to Detroit next week , he is on a Tech Review Panel and he hopes to find a direction to go with this issue while he is there. And my service advisor is going to another dealership here that has a 2011 in stock so he can see if that car does that same thing. I would think that if this was a common problem on these cars I would have heard it on the videos I have seen or read about it here.
