Chevy's Shelby Killer in action

It's odd they camouflaged the car, we already know what it looks like.........Good thinking Chevy

It just made it appear faster on the track than it actually was. I just don't like the looks of that car. The belt line is way too high. I guess they made it that high so you can lean back and nobody would know who was driving it. I wouldn't get caught in one of those cars either.

Well I'm really interested to see how Ford counters the Z28. I think it should be an easy win for them...GM is gunning for the 2011 GT500 so in reality they are chasing what is already on the road. 2012 model year will be very interesting.

Wonder what the tag price is gonna be on this supercharged boat, compared to buying a Z06. I test drove a the 2SS, and jesus the suspension was that of a Crown Vic, transmission had sloppy shifting, and kinda slow for a 436hp car. When I test drove the 2011 5.0 just after holy crap it was a night and day difference.

You can say it's ugly and all that but I bet you this. It will be faster than a 2011 GT500 with SVT PP and hook better too just like the CTS-V Coupe. Probably shift into second on WOT as well.....

Yep. It's funny because the Camaro guys said the same thing about the Mustang when the new 5.0 came out. "Oh, it might be quicker but it's still ugly." I don't care for the calling it ugly excuse, no matter which side it's coming from. It's subjective. Performance is not. And based on the CTS-V Coupe's stats, I wouldn't doubt the Z being quicker. At least until Ford get's off their rear and finds a way to get the Shelby some Traction!

No matter what, the Camaro will always be carrying three or four hundred pounds of extra pork that will put it at a disadvantage to the Mustang. As for their looks, I've tried to like them but they're just too big and ungainly looking for my tastes.

I like the comment about the camouflage. :hysterical:

It's 300-400lbs. heavier than the 5.0 but it's pretty close in weight to the Shelby. Now the Z28 is going to pack on a few pounds with the added blower. Anyway, it's going to be interesting to see what happens in this battle.

Too bad you have such a "sour grapes' attitude. My GT500 shifts perfectly. Sell the damn thing and quit whining already. :talkhand:

It always amuses me when people make these kind of "comparisons" as well. Different drivers net different results, that's kind of a given. And I suppose all the people in the "I don't mod my GT500" topic can worry about magazine/internet racing another brand-X car that "runs xx.xx" based off some "test' that they take as gospel.

Personally, I can't wait to spoil more videos for the Camaro owners. I'll pick them out of the line at the track, line up, watch the smug "I read on the intrahweb thinggy that I have a faster car than that GT500-he better watch out for me and mighty Camaro!" look on his face and then proceed to show 'em the "ugly" ass end of my GT500... After we pick up our timeslips, I'll be sure and say "Bet you won't show THAT video to your friends on the Camaro5 website, will ya???"

I think it is safe to bet that the Z28 will out perform the 2011 GT500 in most instrumented performance tests. I can't imagine Chevy would release the car without this being the case. However, that doesn't mean it will be more enjoyable to drive. My father-in-law has a 2010 SS and it just isn't my cup of tea. The car feels huge when you are driving it and the visibility sucks. I also don't care for his interior, but supposedly Chevy is addressing that as well with all the 2012 Camaros.

I'm very interested to see what the Z28 will do in both a straight line and around the Ring. I'm also excited to see what Ford will do to strike back. Competition is a good thing for all of us no matter what car you prefer.

Yeah, I was thinkin' that too.

You can see a little 'front splitter' in it but other than that, the body looks just like what's already out on the street. Oh yeah, and a cowl 'hump' in the hood but BFD.

Did you see the meats under the rear in the shot where the car is staging for the run on the track? That's some *serious* tire back there. Ford might wanna take a lesson for the GT500.

I spent my money just like you and am free to comment. I just think it's foolish to have a fan boy attitude about the Z28. It's going to be a better car than a stock 2011 GT500 with the SVT PP. I'm sure Ford will respond with the 2012

I AGREE. The GT500 won't be looking so pretty when it's being smoked by the Z28. Ford/Shelby please do something about this :censored: traction problem.

Except the CTS-V coupe is over 60K MSRP and the Z28 isn't going to run anywhere near that. Why would it be faster?

I don't see how that is a given.

I'll reserve my judgement for when some actual numbers come out.
