Bretts08GT500
Alright gentleman I have been debating this for awhile now and would like your advise. I have a 2008 vert that is black with black interior and red inserts but have a white GT500 stripe on the side. I would like to remove the stripe and make the car all black but I don't want to hurt the value of the car by removing the stripe. What would you do in my shoes? FiaCobra
Remove it. You can always get replacement stripes later on.
BAD500Chris
Another thing you might want to think about is how long it's been sitting in the sun. If you DD it then I would say leave it on. If the paint is faded even just a slight bit, you will see the outline in the paint, and that will probably irritate you more than the stripe being there. Bretts08GT500
Yeah, didn't think about that. The car only has 12,000 miles but I don't know where the prevous owner kept it. You can always buy a OEM stripe from the dealer and keep it stored in a dark/cool box somewhere. Then, if you ever sell the car you can put it back on and it will still be a OE sticker (not aftermarket). Phill
skeet
I saw a GT500 that had the side stripe removed but let the part with GT500 below the snake on the front fender.
Bretts08GT500
I've seen that as well but didn't like as much.
Stidog
I noticed one of our club GT500s has the stripe delete on it. I asked him if it was a "tribute" car.... he smacked me. Just have someone make you a red stripe for the sides. Matches the interior, no paint fade worries. MrFarmdog probably has a guy
glroy
do what you like best lets face it there are 10,000 or so 07s you can't really worry about value on a 10 k run of cars and some with like 5 miles on them. I m thinking about changing the complete colour ( black is a bitch to keep clean ) and after 35K I have just about had enough!! one of my friends likes yellow I am sort of leaning to orange but not the grabber orange ( a wilder orange ) or may be 66 playboy pink
Bretts08GT500
Actually what I thought about doing was painting some red stripes down the car. It just didn't make sense to me why a white stripe with black exterior and black and red interior. I noticed one of our club GT500s has the stripe delete on it. I asked him if it was a "tribute" car.... he smacked me. Just have someone make you a red stripe for the sides. Matches the interior, no paint fade worries. thewheelman
Changing it to red, yeah, I could go for that, but not removing it entirely. The side stripes are very distinctive of the GT 500's......I like 'em. Of course, mine's alloy w/silver stripes......
regalt87
I think the best color combination that I have seen is black car with grabber blue stripes. That would clash with your interior red, but if I owned a black car I would re cover the seats with blue inserts to match the blue stripe. If it's not sitting in a garage with less than a couple thousand miles on it it's value is gonna be in the fun factor. Drive it, mod it and enjoy. TexasShelby
I'd buy a set in the color of your choice and put them away then when you sell it the new owner would have their choice. When I've modded I've always bagged, tagged and stored all the OEM parts.
Bretts08GT500
Well, I took the plunge and sent the car to the body shop for some work. I'm having the front and rear bunpers refreashed so I decided to have white strips painted instead of the vinyl stripes. The car is black witha white side strip. I went to a local car show and measured the correct width of the stripes on the front and back so that it is the same dimension as the vinyl ones. I should get the car back some time this week and I will post some pics.

I have *heard* (so I don't know it is fact) that the GT500 stripes are not the same width the entire length. I heard the hood stripes are wider at the windshield end than the grille end. That is supposed to give them the appearence of them being the same witdth, to "fool" the eye so to speak. I think I heard the same about the OTT top stripes too. Bretts08GT500
Your right they do taper. That's why I measured them at the start of the front bumper and conducted random measurements all the way up the hood to the rear of the car. I wanted to make sure we got the taper correct. The stripes start out at 9.25 inches in the front and taper to 10.75 inches in the rear. I don't mean to throw a wrench into your project but..... When you say front and rear...of the HOOD or of the STRIPE? In other words, are the HOOD stripes 1-1/2" wider from front to rear or is the complete stripe (front of the car to rear of the car)?
