EL SHELBY
I recently installed a set of 18x9 GT4 wheels from American Muscle and have a brand new set of Goodyear F1 Supercars in the recommended size of 255/45/18. The tires are just barely rubbing the struts! Is anyone else having or had this issue?
americaniron
I've got the same setup in the front but am using BFG KDW2 255/40s, instead of 255/45s. I havent had any clearance issues at all.
EL SHELBY
Spoke with American Muscle they want me to send in photos. Problem is I've lost my damn lock nut key some time in the last two weeks! The fun never ends.....
americaniron
I hope they get it straightened out for you. I do know that many tires that are of a peticular size still vary from brand to brand. ie as brand "A" 255/45s tire will be slightly thicker than brand "B" 255/45s....... The only problem I had with the GT4 wheels is that the wheel studs in the front stuck so far out, that it was difficult to find a locking lug nut that wouldn't bottom out. I ended up going with a brand that Cruzin Concepts sold.
EL SHELBY
I found the paperwork on my missing wheel lock key. I'll have to wait until Tuesday to call them and hopefully expedite a new key. Has anyone ever ordered a new key for a lug lock? I so, how quickly was it turned around? Hey if you want I can fly down and with a snip here and there it will be all good then we can work on that wheel lock. Do you have a plasma cutter if not then a little C-4 should loosen it up Happy labor day !!
BIKEBOY
Wicked has those wheels on his SGT. I know they are out of town now....but you may hear from them upon their return? He sent me pictures last week of his car because I asked see'in as I'm on the fence for possibly doing them on my 500. Here ya go...
07-2937
Ive run the same exact setup and have no clearance issues. I ran my car @ last years bash hard on those rims and tires!
EL SHELBY
Well, I was wrong. I still need a key to remove the wheels but I was able to use the camera on my phone to take photos of the strut and the back of the wheel and tire. Nothing is rubbing. However, this does not solve my issue. I have a slight shutter in my steering wheel that comes and goes. When the suspension is under different loads is what seems to effect the amount of shutter I feel. Maybe it's a balance issue. Does anyone have a suggestion on what it could be? kahmann
^Have you done any suspension modifications at all? Did you have the car aligned after installing the new rims/tires?
EL SHELBY
No mods, and has not been aligned though it has crossed my mind. I've ordered a new key for the locks which should be here any day. Once I have the key I plan to pay a visit to Goodyear or the dealer to have the balance checked. I might as well have an alignment done at the same time. I've read the thred on the camber bolts so I may pick up a set of those as well. With a six month old in the house and the wife working reduced hours I'm not able to spare the coin for the track time so I might as well have a little more pedestrian set-up. motorjock205
Jason, Check to make sure that all of the clips that hold the rotors on have been removed...it's quite possible that one of those may still be on one of the studs and it may have the new wheel wobbling just a tad...quite possibly enough for you to feel it or someone to see it if they are following you....Just a thought.... EL SHELBY
Yes, I removed all of the clips off the studs the day the wheels were mounted, and yes you can most definitely feel their effect on the wheels if they have not been removed.
