3.73 gears or not

I've got a 08 red stripe vert. I had a few things done & it's got 561 rwhp. The suspention is frpp . I still have stock tires & gears, but at any speed in 1st there is no traction at all when I boot it. Tires will be changed in the near future. Question I have will 3.73 gears improve hook up or not?

Thanks

If anything, the lower gear will make it easier to spin the tires.

Wanna try something? Drop your air pressure in your rear tires and see if that helps. The F1's are VERY particular about over pressure. 5psi can make a night/day difference with them.

3.73's will let you launch harder but if you've got no traction it's not going to matter much.

The stock tires on the 08's just don't have enough grip.

All reviews on the 10's say the new tire greatly improved traction and the tires on the 11's are even better.

Tires are KEY to performance.

Agreed on the tires issue. My 18" OEM F1s pale in comparison to the 2011 new take-offs I just put on my car. The new F1s have a different look and different tread pattern. Not certain what Goodyear did; I would have never bought another set of the 18s, but the 19s are great.

If you stay with the OEM wheels, I've heard decent things about Nitto 555s.

Good luck

Why are 4.10's not streetable...I would understand on a 5 speed somewhat but on a 6-speed it should be fine. I would like some info about this...

3:73's are more street friendly, 4:10's kick the boost in too early for daily driving (one opinion). I have had my 3:73's for over a year and I love them-absolutely no whine.

Why is it that some you with 3.73 gears have a whine on deceleration & others don't. Are they installed wrong?

Thanks Dave

Sorry Dave to answer you a bit late,my guest would be a yes.(eventhough I really don't have a clue of what exactly is the "backlash" upon installation, but have read about this issue) if this is not followed, that's where the whine would be heard!!

I run 4:10's but with 315/40/19" tires.They are 28.9" tall.Love the driveability and don't miss the 20hp.

thats more like it. i say run the 410's if i would do it all over again i would of went 410's FRPP. my buddy did 410's in his 08 GT500 an they much better and the MPG is the same as my car with 373's

I'm getting ready to have 3.73's installed too; have done a search and read a lot of older posts re 3.73 installs, notably on issues with gear whine, but haven't seen any recent update posts. So a couple quick Q's; any other input much appreciated as well!

- Backlash: .008 still works best?

- Gear oil: stick with the Ford stuff, or is there better out there - Redline? Royal Purple? etc...still need friction modifier with those? Recommended gear oil weight?

I'm using FRPP 3.73's (M-4209-F373N) and have the GT500 specific install kit with the new high torque pinion bearing (M-4210-B1).

The installer is very experienced and I've had great success with his work on previous cars.
