Super Snake Stripe Color

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I was wondering if you can get custom stripe colors. I am looking to purchase a 2011 Black GT500, but I want to immediately send it for the SS Package. I have a 67 that is black with Gold Stripes and would like to have the color patterns match.

Is that possible?

Sorry, no. 2007-2010 SS's get a thin-wide-thin flat black stripe, and the 2011 has the option of either a flat black or a flat white stripe. No other custom stripe colors are available from Shelby.

Oh, sorry to be nosey, but are you buying a 2011 with the SVT package or without?

well. anything is possible.

all it takes is money.

once your SS is completed.

find an after-market SS stripe kit with the color of your choice.

then remove the original SS stripes and re-install your custom color stripe kit.

i too was hesitant at first with the flat black, but now I am very pleased.

good luck

I am not sure about the SVT performance package. Is it worth it if I would send the car to the Shelby people to have it modified anyways?

I can have the same company paint my stripes that did my 67, but I would prefer to have the people at Shelby do it if they had the ability. That way it would be "original"...

That's the reason I asked the question. IMO it does not make any sense to send an SVTPP car to be converted. Yes, SA does give you a credit for some of the PP components, but it makes more sense (to me) ordering a 2011 non PP packaged car with stripe delete so you can save the money that can in turn be spent on SS options/goodies while the car is at SA.

And regarding the stripes, unfortunately the SS stripe color issue/desire has been around since the SS program was announced, but in the end the package is the package, no changes allowed.

Wasn't their one GT500, Blue if I remember correctly, that was allowed to have the SS stripes installed in white? I remember seeing it on one of the forums.

Shane

Yes, that would be the Kona Blue 2011 SS. 2011 cars have the option of getting either flat black or flat white stripes. Just the 2011 model year only (for now).

That's not a 2011 (or for that matter, a 2010) so either someone "cloned" a Super Snake or they had their matte black removed and had white installed.

I think the person above who is talking about a blue car w/white stripes might be talking about that White Super Snake that had a Blue stripe put on. The owner insisted that Tasca Ford did it before the black stripe was installed so it was a "one-of--one" SS.

Amy Boylan, Roger, even Tasca joined in on that thread and all said he was wrong, that the car had the black stripe removed and a blue AFTERMARKET stripe added by Tasca (post sale).

It created quite a stir right here on the TS forum!

Oh, and regardless of the status of the car shown....a Blue Super Snake with a White stripe looks KILLER IMHO.

I know which is why I posted it. Sorry, I thought I stated that I saw an 07-09 blue SS with white stripes, but I was at work and made a quick post leaving out some info. I'm not sure of the details of the car I posted and I wish I could dig up the info just so I could be clear. I could have sworn that I remember the owner of the car stating that Shelby huffed and puffed about it but he ended up getting his way in the end. Again, these are all accounts referenced from the mind of a total burnout so I could be way off base.

I also agree that this color and stripe setup look awesome, which is why I'm doing mine with a silver SS stripe setup.

Thanks

Shane

I'll put money on it that it did not happen..

I virtually waved 40 grand CASH under Steve Mansell's (Customer Relations Rep at Shelby LV) nose and I was flatly turned down (getting a white stripe on my Kona Blue 2010). I tried getting a stripe delete...."NOPE, we sell the Super Snake with a matte black stripe". I tried getting it without them removing the OE stripes and putting NO stripe on the hood (so I could double stripe it)..."NOPE, we sell the Super Snake with a matte black stripe". I tried getting a white stripe complete..."NOPE, we sell the Super Snake with a matte black stripe".

His final suggestion to me was to have the car Snaked (with a black stripe) and while the stripe was still fresh and easy to remove, remove it and install a white stripe myself. I told him "but then it won't be a factory Super Snake, it'll be a modified Super Snake". He said... "YEP, that's right, we only sell the Super Snake with a matte black stripe".....

I"m like.....so you're going to let me walk away with my 40 grand in hand and not sell a Super Snake? YEP, we only sell the Super Snake with a matte black stripe!" lol

If somone else got a blue ss w/white stripe, I'd LOVE to see the facts surrounding it!

You know, to me, this goes straight back to the argument of when you first buy the car, and think to yourself, I should leave it stock to protect the pedigree, then break down and start toying with it, but if you are willing to mod your GT500 with all sorts of aftermarket goodies, why be hesitant about modding your SS? Look, it is, and always will be a CSM issued SS and no mod you do to your car will take that away.

That said, I know of AT LEAST one instance where a GT500SS convertible was given the upgraded supercharger 750HP, so I guess nothing would surprise me. They werent supposed to be doing Terlingua convertibles either, and there are photos right now on the Terlingua section of one.

What can I say? Its your car. I always wanted to SS my GT500 which has the red stripes, but got the same answer on my car. Now, they did sell me the car cover with SS red stripes. Nice tease, huh?

Would have been a great marketing tool for the red stripe owners to offer a limited package SS that retains the features of the red stripe GT500s, but Im just a lowly enthusiast. :headscratch:

By the time I was willing to do the SS and just change the stripe anyway, I had already installed all of the SS upgrades on my car through that killer Xmas sale the Shelbystore had. At that point, I would have been paying like 30k for a CSM plaque and badging as there is no credit given for pre-installed mods.

No, I ended up (well, it hasn't quite "ended" yet) not buying a Super Snake.

Now, with the 2011 MY Shelby WILL put a White SS style stripe on a Kona Blue car.

There is a Kona Blue car coming into my local dealer (next to come in on their allocation) and I told them to call me when it comes in and MAYBE we'll do some business. They already said they'd give me a great trade-in on my car so I could trade my 2010 for a 2011 (with the '11 upgrades) and then if I really wanted, have it snaked with the white stripe.

Have my cake and eat it to...so to speak.

Biggest problem is, I've started adding mods to my car. The biggest (a FRPP/Whipple 2.9L 750HP polished supercharger) isn't a problem since it is one of the "accepted mods" Shelby will take into account on a discount.

Same with the FRPP FR3 Handling pack (another Shelby mod duplicate).

The Blue Ford Racing cam covers...well, they'll already be on the '11 so either take 'em off and sell 'em separate, or leave 'em on and give the next owner Blue covers.

The ceramic coated FRPP headers....ehh, I can add them to a SS post-sale if I decided.

Same with all of my Roush UCA & LCA parts.

But the Roush off-road Extreame exhaust would be a loss.

Roush side splitters: can be transfered (if I decided to).

Granatelli Tire Frier line-lock: can be transfered.

WOT 2-stage stutter box: can be transfered.

The Roush vent pod with the FRPP vac/boost gauge: can be transfered and something else put in the hole from the Shelby pod.

The MM/CS caster/camber plates: transfered

FRPP Jounce Bumpers: transfered.

Point is, although I'm buying/installing aftermarket toys like crazy, I can "transfer" (use) most of them on a '11 Super Snake IF I SO CHOSE.

It's still all up in the air right now.

As for getting the '10 Snaked and changing the stripes: Refer back to a thread (actually, a couple of threads) on this forum where a guy with a White SS had a Blue SS stripe put on.

That poor sucker got beat up, stepped on and spit out because "it's not a "real" Super Snake"...."It's just a modded Super Snake"....etc. etc. etc.

I guess the guys that widen their SS wheels are somehow different becasue *they* do have "real Super Snakes" and no one has ever said any different.

But BOYYYYYYYY, put a different color stripe on it and you may as well have slapped the Pope in the face!

Phil you crack me up ! Just trade your car for an '11, then have it snaked with white stripes and be done with it ! You agonized over the white stripes even more than I did !! Now I have an '11, I have to save up $$$ to get it snaked. In the meantime I have to not go crazy putting stuff on it. You on the other hand can buy it and take it to Vegas the next day ! I do have one question. Will SA let you transfer your 2.9 Whipple over to the SS ? I thought you had to buy it from them? -HAWKBARR

My "understanding" is, yes.

They offer the FRPP/Whipple 2.9 (and polished too) and as far as I know, it is NOT Shelby badged so it would be the same item, Apples to apples...

Same thing with the FRPP FR3 handling pack. It is one of the two suspensions you can get on a SS so what's the difference if I buy it from them or from Ford? (I mean, other then some profit they don't make).

I may be under the wrong impression. Let's see if Roger peeps in here.

SAI said No white stripes on your 2010, so you spent a portion of that $40K Super Snake money all over the aftermarket world.............

I broke down and talked to them this week. I wanted a black car with a glass roof, gold stripes, and the 800 HP mod. They can't do that. They said they can't do the 650 HP package anymore. They only offer 750 or 800. Verts glass roof cars can have 750, but coupes can get that or 800. The guy asked me why I need 800 HP with a glass roof car. The answer is because I am an American and I should get whatever I want with my money!!! Well, they don't agree. He said I should get the car with the stripe, remove it and put an aftermarket gold one on there, and have a spare black to put it back original if I decide that I want to sell it as original one day. He advised not painting the stripes on...

He said they don't even allow stripe delete because it distinguishes the car as a super snake, like the Shelby's Roush, and Boss cars. I told him I would think about it. Those were my only two requests and they can't cover either...

You apparently talked to the same guy *I* did! LOL....

Steve Mansell?

GREAT guy, very interesting to talk with. But he's definately "a company man" and he stuck to the company line all the way to the end!

I can't say I agree with Shelby's business decision (BLACK MATTE STRIPES ONLY) but it is *their* business, and *their* business decision and I respect that (they make their bed, they lay in it).

Personally, I think they would open up their Super Snake customer base TREMENDOUSLY by offering optional colors for the SS stripe.

But hey, it's *their* decision.....and it's *my* money!

What I find so interesting about the whole SS stripe color issue is the fact that the Shelby website shows a blue car with a silver stripe. I wanted a blue stripe with my silver car and got the same response as all of you.
